The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 301-305
Chapter 301
After sending his text message, Charlie Wade anxiously awaited replies. Jasmine was the first: "Mr. Wade, don't worry! I'll definitely come to congratulate your wife tomorrow!" Graham followed: "Thank you for the invitation, Mr. Wade. I'll definitely attend the opening ceremony tomorrow!" Zeke replied: "Mr. Wade, I'll bring my son and nephew to congratulate your wife tomorrow! I really want those two to apologize in person."
Everyone was thrilled by Charlie Wade's invitation, seeing it as an opportunity to get closer to him. Claire Wilson, however, initially had reservations about her opening ceremony. She never expected her husband to organize such a grand event.
Returning home, Claire quickly relaxed to prepare for the studio's opening. Charlie also went to bed early, his mind focused on making his wife the talk of Aurouss Hill tomorrow.
The next day, Claire's studio opening arrived. Lacking significant capital as a new business, she had leased a small office in the relatively obscure Bright Star Building. Although a subsidiary property of the Emgrand Group, it was insignificant; Emgrand Group sublet the office space to an intermediary company.
Initially, Charlie considered asking Doris to vacate a floor in Bright Star Building for Claire, but decided against it, fearing it would be difficult to explain to her. Instead, he let Claire rent a small office herself.
Now, Charlie and Claire stood outside the small office, awaiting guests. Claire had sent invitations to former colleagues at Wilson Group and even dared to invite Doris from Emgrand Group. Still, she was nervous, unsure if anyone would attend. A failed opening would be disastrous for her fledgling business.
Seeing Claire's distress, Charlie reassured her, "My dear wife, it's still early. When the time comes, all the guests will be here. Don't worry so much." It was only slightly after 9:00 a.m.; the opening was scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
Shortly after, Claire received a call. The Bright Star Building's receptionist informed her that the Wilson family was arriving.
Charlie was shocked. "The Wilson family? What are they doing here? Did you invite them?"
Claire shook her head. "Why would I invite them after our argument? Maybe they're here to mock me. The assistant said Granny came with my uncle's family. Charlie, I hope you won't confront them."
Charlie smiled. "As long as they don't cause trouble, I won't argue. Today is supposed to be a happy day."
Chapter 302
Claire nodded, her brow furrowed with anxiety. Soon, Lady Wilson slowly approached, her cane tapping the floor. Christopher, Harold, and Wendy followed. Harold, recently released on bail by Lady Wilson, glared at Charlie with resentment.
Charlie remained unfazed. He wanted to avoid conflict on his wife's special day; he'd only retaliate if provoked.
Wendy sneered, "Claire, you didn't greet Grandma? When did you become so rude?"
Claire replied flatly, "I was kicked out of the Wilson family. We're not related."
"Damn it!" Lady Wilson slammed her cane, "You're a Wilson, blood related! You were born a Wilson, and when you die, you'll be a Wilson ghost!"
Charlie retorted sarcastically, "A bit hypocritical, isn't it? When you kicked her out, she wasn't family, but now, alive or dead, she's one of you? Contradictory, wouldn't you say?"
Harold gritted his teeth, "Shut up, loser! You have no say here!"
Charlie glared back, "Didn't you get enough punches the other day? Want another?"
Fearful, Harold retreated. He'd experienced Charlie's strength firsthand and knew he was no match, regardless of numbers.
Claire turned to Lady Wilson, "I'm sorry, you're not welcome. Please leave."
Lady Wilson scoffed, "Claire, do you really think anyone will come to this tiny workshop?"
Christopher added contemptuously, "I heard you even invited Emgrand Group. How do you think they'll view your little office?"
Lady Wilson continued, "After all, we're family. Look at you, working in this shabby office with no money or resources. Return to Wilson Group! I'll make you manager again, give you shares, and name you successor. What do you say?"
The Wilson family was struggling. Emgrand Group had severed ties, and the White family had called off Wendy's engagement. Lady Wilson's only hope was Claire's return. She believed Claire could restore their connections and perhaps even regain the Emgrand Group contract.
Unexpectedly, Claire simply shook her head, "Thanks, but no thanks. I want to do my own thing."
Christopher sneered, "Claire, look at your empty office! Do you think you can make it? You'll be bankrupt before you start!"
Charlie scoffed, "It's none of your business! I can make Aurouss Hill's elite come and congratulate Claire whenever I want!"
Chapter 303
Harold sneered ironically, "Charlie, go ahead with your charade. I bet your 'associates' are low-lifes. Do you really think you're so important? You can't invite anyone prominent!"
"A loser like Charlie Wade is best at bragging. If no one comes, you'll be Aurouss Hill's laughingstock."
Claire listened to their insults, anxiety rising. A successful opening showcased connections and resources. Many guests, especially VIPs, indicated a strong network. No guests meant a lack of connections, hindering future business opportunities. She'd hoped Emgrand Group would send someone.
Lady Wilson stated, "Claire, it's almost ten, and no one's here but us. Return to Wilson Group. It's better than cold stares."
The Wilson family had contacted Claire's former partners, leveraging their relationship to dissuade them from attending, emphasizing Claire's connection to the Wilson family and discouraging future collaboration. Lady Wilson was confident of a guest-less event, further humiliating Claire and giving them leverage.
Claire was agitated, biting her lip. Charlie took her hand, "Dear, so what if there are no guests? I'm here, and that's enough!"
Claire smiled, feeling warmth in her heart.
Lady Wilson sneered, "Charlie, you're overconfident! Without Wilson Group, you're driving yourself to a dead end!"
Charlie confidently replied, "Claire's business will only get better! Wilson Group in its prime is nothing to Claire, let alone the bankrupt Wilson Group! Surpassing her past success with you is a breeze!"
"Huh, cocky fellow!" Lady Wilson felt insulted. She slammed her cane, "You're a loser who married into our family. How dare you raise your voice?"
Charlie grinned slyly, "Raise my voice? I'm stating facts. Let's wait and see!"
Harold sneered, "Alright, we'll see if you can grow this business."
Chapter 304
Charlie was puzzled. He'd invited Emgrand Group; Doris should be here, likely preparing a gift.
Christopher boasted, "Well, do you still think you're so well-connected?"
It was almost 10:00 a.m. The entrance remained empty.
Wendy sneered, "Dad, the loser said he's enough. I wonder how powerful he is? Does he think he's someone here?"
Then, a voice from the front desk boomed, "Announcing the arrival of Mr. Travis Lane of Lancaster…"
Travis Lane? Charlie was surprised. He hadn't invited him. The Wilson family was stunned. Travis Lane, Lancaster's richest man?
Travis entered, ignoring Christopher who rushed to greet him. He went straight to Charlie, "Mr. Wade, I've finally made it."
Charlie asked, "Why are you here?"
Travis replied smoothly, "Mr. Wade, it's your wife's opening ceremony. I'm here to congratulate you both!"
Christopher tried to intervene, but Travis snapped, "Who are you? I'm talking to Mr. Wade!"
Christopher mumbled his name and asked if a Mr. Mark had referred him, but Travis coldly responded that he didn't know them. He was there solely to congratulate Mrs. Wade.
Chapter 305
Travis's words shocked the office. He had come to congratulate Claire?! The richest man in Lancaster?! How did they know him?
Christopher was humiliated. Wendy whispered to Harold, doubting Travis's identity, questioning why a famous person would be so kind to a "loser." Harold agreed. No one present had ever met Travis, but they'd heard of his reputation for strictness. Yet, he spoke softly and respectfully to Charlie.
Travis presented a magnificent box to Claire. "Mrs. Wade, congratulations. Please accept this small gift."
Claire was surprised; she didn't know him. Charlie gently nudged her, "Dear, it's a congratulatory gift. Accept it."
Claire hesitantly accepted. Wendy urged, "Claire, it's from Mr. Lane. Let us see it." Harold added that the gift must be expensive considering Lane's wealth.
Under everyone's gaze, Claire opened the box revealing a jade necklace, "The Breezy Moon," famously auctioned for fifty million dollars. Lady Wilson recognized it. Her eyes gleamed; it could reverse their fortunes.
Wendy remarked enviously about their good luck. Then, the receptionist announced, "Miss Wilson, your congratulatory gifts are here!" A helicopter landed outside, unloading numerous flower baskets and gifts.
