Chapter 288
Jamar and Reece were so done with Cain that they didn't even feel like talking to him anymore. Jamar switched topics, something suddenly coming to mind. โMaster Flynn is taking us to the night market later, but what if we see something weโฆโ
Their phones had been taken away, which meant no money. The others immediately jumped in, โYeah, what do we do if we want to buy something?โ
Everyone turned to Sebastian, who was sitting quietly in the corner. After thinking for a moment, Sebastian said, โHow about this: Take my assistant with you. If you find something you want, the production team will cover it for now, and you can pay them back after the show.โ
Since giving their phones back wasn't an option, this was the next best thing. Phoche smiled. โThatโs alright. Thanks for handling it.โ
Sebastian waved it off. โNo big deal.โ
Truth was, he was interested in checking out the night market himself. After hearing Raylan mention it earlier, he even had his assistant look it up. That was when he realized they couldnโt just walk in; they needed someone to take them, or they wouldnโt even be allowed inside.
Cain, who had been listening the whole time, suddenly asked Jamar, โWhy do you call him Master Flynn?โ
Jamar shrugged. โWe kinda forgot to introduce him properly. Heโs a horoscope master, so I call him Master Flynn.โ
Phoebe nodded. โYeah, and heโs really good. Heโs also my senior.โ
Knowing Cain, he was probably going to ask Raylan for a reading. Phoche was curious to see how he would react. The others hadnโt known about this connection before, so they were caught off guard.
Just as she expected, Cainโs eyes lit up. He turned to Raylan, โMaster Flynn, can you take a look at my fortune? I know horoscope masters charge for readings, but Iโll pay you after the show.โ
He had been so unlucky lately that he was close to losing his mind. The bracelet Sienna gave him helped a little, but he wanted a real fix. Since Phoebe wasnโt going to help him, Cain figured heโd just find another powerful horoscope master, right in front of her. This guy was Phoebeโs senior, and if she spoke so highly of him, he had to be legit.
Meanwhile, Siennaโs heart sank. She cursed Cain in her head. โIs he seriously asking for a fortune-telling session on a live broadcast? If he wanted Raylan to read his fortune, he shouldโve done it off-camera.โ
She also had her doubts. Even if Raylan could see something, there was no way he would spill everything in front of a live audience.
Raylan was caught off guard, too. He hadnโt expected someone to ask for a fortune-telling reading right then and there. After a moment, he turned to Sebastian. โWeโre live. Is fortune-telling allowed?โ
Sebastian just shrugged. โAnything that boosts ratings is allowed.โ Then he chuckled. โBesides, there are tons of fortune-telling livestreams. Itโs not against the rules.โ
That was basically a green light. Cain jumped in, โMaster Flynn, donโt worry. Itโs fine.โ
Haylan smirked. โAlright then. Since weโre on the same show, Iโll take a look. Consider it fate. But just so you know, Iโm not cheap. I charge 15 million dollars per reading. If you want a solution, thatโs extra.โ
Silence. Everyone was stunned. Fortune-telling cost that much? Thatโs crazy! Phoebe, however, didnโt even blink. โFor someone at his level, that price is pretty standard.โ
If he was truly at the Ascendance Realm, 15 million dollars was nothing. Some people would pay way more just to get a reading, if he even agreed to do it.
Raylan nodded. โThatโs my starting rate.โ
Cain looked like he was trying to process the number. โAnd if I want to fix my bad luckโฆ how much would that be?โ
Raylan smirked. โDepends. But it wonโt be less than 15 million dollars.โ
Anything cheaper wasnโt worth his time. At his level, money didnโt really matter. People begged him for readings all the time, but most of the time, he just ignored them. Now that he was on this variety show and someone had brought it up, Raylan figured he might as well go along with it.
Cin hesitated when he heard the price. Yeah, it was expensive, but that only made him believe in Raylanโs abilities even more. The talismans Phoebe had sold to Leon and the others before were also 14 million dollars each. The difference: Cain wanted to buy one, but Phoebe wouldnโt sell it to him.
So, without thinking twice, he turned to Raylan and said, โNo problem. Once the showโs over, Iโll send you the money. Just take a look at my fortune.โ
Raylan glanced at Cain, his expression unreadable. The whole room fell silent. Even the livestream chat had stopped moving.
Raylan barely had to look at him before he knew everything. โEveryone knows your background,โ he said smoothly. โYour familyโฆ nothing really worth mentioning.โ Then he continued, โBut your career? That only took off because you stole someone elseโs opportunity. You went behind their back, made your move first, and thatโs why you succeeded. After that, everything came easy: fame, fortune, success.โ
Cainโs breath caught. Thatโฆ was true. When he first got into the industry, he had followed Siennaโs advice and snatched up a script before another director could claim it. That one move had made him famous, securing his position as the youngest rising director in the country. The only people who knew about it were him and Sienna.
Meanwhile, Siennaโs stomach twisted. โCan Raylan really see all that? Maybe he is the real deal. But luckโฆ can he see through that too! No, surelyโฆโ
Cain didnโt deny it, and that silence said everything. Everyone watching, both in the room and on the live-stream, suddenly had a much lower opinion of him. Still, they were hooked now. They wanted to hear more.
Raylan un-irked. โAnd lately, youโve been really unlucky, havenโt you? Choking on water, tripping over nothing, messing up even while eating.โ
Cain nodded eagerly. โYeah! Itโs been insane. Can you tell meโฆโ
The moment those words left his mouth, Phoebeโs gaze snapped to Raylan. She already knew the answer. Cainโs sudden streak of bad luck was tied to Sienna. If Raylan was as powerful as he seemed, there was no way he wouldnโt see it. The real question was: Would he say it out loud?
Raylan eyed Cain and said, โBecause you gave away a third of yourโฆโ Then, he glanced at Sienna. โYou gave it to her, didnโt you? Her luck was practically gone, so she asked for yours, and you agreed. Since you two have some kind of connection, your luck naturally transferred over.โ
His gaze dropped to the bracelet on Cainโs wrist. โThe only reason you havenโt hit rock bottom yet is because of that horoscope artifact.โ
Cain was stunned. โWow, youโre good.โ
And just like that, he confirmed it; he really had given his luck to Sienna.
Sienna stiffened, feeling like the floor had just dropped out from under her. โDamn it, Cain! If he admitted it outright, what will people think ofโฆโ She quickly pulled herself together, putting on a shocked face. โWait, what? You can actually do that?โ
Then, like she just remembered something, she added, โI did hear from a friend once that if youโre having a streak of bad luck, you can borrow luck from someone close to you to turn things aroundโ โ
She gasped again, eyes wide with fake innocence. โBut she never said that the person lending it would end up unlucky instead!โ
