Chapter 290
Sienna never thought Raylan would see through everything. She had practically begged him to keep quiet, but he still went ahead and said it in front of everyone. Her blood boiled. It felt like everyone connected to Phoebe was out to get her. Phoebe must have been badmouthing her behind her back.
Raylan and Phoebe were senior and junior; there was no way this was their first meeting. No way heโd just decide to throw her under the bus unless there was a misunderstanding.
Sienna refused to believe he was just telling the truth. She was panicking, trying to figure out her next move, when Cainโs voice cut through her thoughts. He was willing to believe her. Relief hit her like a wave, and she immediately put on her best shocked, innocent expression.
She said, โCam, I swear I had no idea this would happen. My friend never told me anything like that. Youโve seen me wearing this bracelet all the time. I even felt pain all over my body because of it, but I thought that meant it was working, so I gave it to you. If I knew it was dangerous, why would I wear it every day?โ
Cain hesitated. That actually sounded reasonable. He had seen Sienna wearing that bracelet. If she knew about the rebound effect, she wouldnโt have kept wearing it for so long. That thought gave him an excuse, something to hold onto so he didnโt have to feel like an idiot.
His expression darkened. โWho told you this? Once the show is over, weโre going after them. They must have tricked you.โ
The room fell silent. Everyone looked at him like he was the dumbest person alive. Jamar sighed. Cain had definitely been played, but instead of admitting it, he was bending over backward to let Sienna off the hook.
Maddox shook his head. โI donโt know if she got tricked, but you sure did. And now youโre just lying to yourself.โ
Cainโs jaw clenched as he shot Maddox a glare. โSo what? Thatโs my business. Whatโs it got to do with you?โ
Maddox just raised his hands. โNothing at all. If you wanna keep being a fool, be my guest.โ If Cam refused to face reality, then he deserved whatever was coming his way.
Phoebe took a sip of her coffee and said, โYou canโt help someone who doesnโt want to be helped.โ Cain was a perfect example of that. He would rather fool himself than accept that heโd been tricked, especially by the sister he had spoiled for over ten years. Then again, maybe he just hadnโt suffered enough yet.
Sienna felt suffocated. She turned to Phoebe, her voice sharp. โYou donโt have to stir things up between me and Cain. I know youโve always been better at getting my brothers to care about me more.โ
โTurโCain has been with me for over a decade, he knows I wouldnโt hurt him! I was tricked too! Why would I joke about borrowing his luck? Why would I stand by and let him suffer?โ
Sienna, desperately trying to clear her name, felt like she was failing.
Phoebe raised an eyebrow. โBorrowing luck isnโt just some joke. If someone agrees to it, it actually works. Otherwise, anyone could just say they were kidding while leeching off their family and friends. That would be a disaster, wouldnโt it? Cluck!โ
โSeriously, do you really think that excuse makes you look innocent? Thereโs only one fool sitting here,โ Con felt like she might as well have just painted a target straight at him. After a moment, he hesitated. โSo there are actual rules for borrowing!โ That day, he thought Sarnia was just messing around. And honestly, if it had been real, he wouldnโt have cared. She was his sister, and if she needed a little luck, no big deal. What he hadnโt known was that it would make him this unlucky. If he had to choose again, no way would he agree to it.
However, from what Phoebe was saying, luck transfer wasnโt as simple as he thought.
Phoebe let out a dry chuckle. โWhat do you think? Try borrowing some luck from someone else and see if it works.โ
Cain was starting to believe her, at least a little, but he still wasnโt ready to accept it. So, he turned to Jamar. โJamar, lend me some of your luck?โ
Jamar just stared at him. โCain, do I look like an idiot to you!โ This jerk had already stolen his talisman once. Not only had it screwed up his luck for days, but it had also cost him 15 million dollars.
Cain crossed his arms. โDidnโt Phoebe say it wonโt work without certain conditions! I just want to test it out.โ He needed to know if Sienna had played him.
Jamar could tell exactly what was going through his head. Heโd been there himself, not wanting to believe Sienna had screwed him over. He turned to Phoebe. โCan he actually try?โ No way he was agreeing to this without making sure first. If Cain could take his luck, that was a hard no.
Phoebe wasnโt like Sienna; she never lied. If she said something worked, it did. If it didnโt, she wouldnโt pretend otherwise. She nodded. โThereโs no condition between you two for luck borrowing. Do whatever you want.โ Then she turned to Cain. โTake off the bracelet and walk a few steps. After that, try borrowing Jamarโs luck.โ
Cain frowned. โWhy do I have to walk first?โ
Phoebe shot him a look. โWhy are you asking so many damn questions? Do you wanna try this or not?โ
Cain sighed. โAlright, alright. Iโll do it.โ
Sienna panicked. She couldnโt let Cain go through with this; if he did, she would be exposed. She had to stop him. Just as Cain reached for the bracelet, an idea hit her. Her face was already pale from anxiety, so she lifted a hand to her forehead, swaying slightly. Then, just as she stood up, she collapsed. Or at least, that was the plan.
But before she could even make a move, a lazy voice cut in. โSienna, are you seriously trying to stop Cain by pretending to faint?โ
Maddox had been watching her the whole time and wasnโt about to let her ruin Phoebeโs plan. For the first time in her life, Sienna wanted to cuss him out. She wanted to cry out of pure frustration. This man always had it out for her. This was straight-up harassment, and now, her whole plan was ruined.
Claring at him, she snapped, โI wasnโt!โ Her eyes burned as she practically growled, โWhy do you always take Phoebeโs side and gang up on me? What the hell did I ever do to you?โ
Maddox shrugged. โRelax, I was just making a comment. No need to get so defensive.โ
Phoebe smirked. โGuess sheโs feeling guilty again.โ She had seen through Siennaโs little act. Maddox really had a talent for spotting bullshit. Not bad at all.
Sienna bit her lip, her voice trembling with frustration. โYou guys are ganging up on me. I canโt fight all of you.โ
Phoebe let out a slow, amused sigh. โThen donโt fight. Just sit back and wait for the results.โ The message was clear; whether they were bullying her or not, the truth would speak for itself soon.
Cain, now even more determined, looked straight at Sienna. โCome on, Sienna. Weโve got nothing to hide, letโs prove them wrong. Whatโs there toโโ
Sienna didnโt say a word. She just wished she could shut him up right now.
