Chapter 323
On the ride back, Phoebe turned to Raylan. โDo you think the Horoscope Association will punish Sienna after their divulgation?โ
Raylan glanced at her briefly. โI canโt say for sure. Sheโs not a Horoscope Master herself, so she probably wonโt face a harsh punishment.โ
โBut if they manage to track down the Horoscope Master who helped her, that person will be in serious trouble?โ
Phoebe smirked, then asked, โDo you think theyโll be able to find them?โ
Raylan didnโt answer immediately, instead turning the question back on her. โDo you think they canโt?โ
Phoebe thought for a moment. โThere are two possibilities: If Manette wants to protect Sienna, theyโll find a scapegoat to take the fall.โ This way, the blame would fall on the scapegoat, and Sienna could escape punishment.
โBut if theyโve already decided to cut ties with Sienna, they probably wonโt be able to find that person.โ In that case, Sienna would take the entire fallโlikely ending up in prison.
Phoebe turned to him, a glint of curiosity in her eyes. โSo, what do you think will happen?โ
Phoebe thought. โItโs unlikely theyโll be able to expose Elliot through this thoroughly. But probing a little deeper is still worth a try.โ
Raylan spoke, โThe first possibility seems more likely. After all, I can still sense that Siennaโs luck hasnโt entirely run out. Her fate is unusual, and too many people are connected to her.โ
He gave her a knowing look and added, โIf she were to fall completely, it might not be as advantageous for you as you think.โ
Phoebe immediately grasped his meaning. She continued, โIs it because the luck between her and me is intertwined, one rising as the other falls?โ
โAre you saying I need to keep weakening her luck for it to benefit me the most?โ
โIs that the only way to completely break the curse between us?โ
Phoebe thought. Is he reminding me of something, or trying to mislead me? It feels more like the former. After all, Iโve had these suspicions and feelings before!
Siennaโs importance to those behind her was likely more significant than that of someone like Soren, who was merely a conduit. To truly bring Sienna down, her luck must be continuously weakened. The curse was broken only when drained to its last drop.
โAfter everything thatโs happened, as long as Cain gets Kaylan to force a resolution, Siennaโs luck could be weakened enough to backfire on her. The remaining half will be much easier to weaken than the first.โ
Raylan smiled faintly. โYouโre very clever.โ His gaze drifted toward the window, giving off an air of detachment. He continued, โIf you want to break the stalemate, just follow your heart.โ
Phoebe gave him a long, thoughtful look. โThank you for the advice, Raylan.โ
Kaylan chuckled softly. โYou donโt need to test me. I have no connection to Sienna, and I couldnโt care less about her.โ He turned to look at her, his eyes intense. A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. โBut I find myself far more interested in you.โ
Phoebe raised an eyebrow, a playful smile on her lips. โIs that so? Well, what a coincidence, because I also find myself quite interested in you.โ
Phoebeโs thoughts: Heโs bound to be the key to unlocking this situation.
The conversation shifted, and they fell into casual chatter. Phoebe began asking him about the training of Horoscope Masters, seeking clarity on a few aspects she still found unclear.
Kaylan didnโt feign ignorance; he answered each question thoughtfully. His responses sparked new insights in Phoebe, prompting her to ask even more.
Phoebe thought, โWhether Raylan is an ally or an enemy, Iโll take advantage of him first and sort everything out later.โ
Carl asked Macaria to look after Cain at the hospital while he took Elliot to the Horoscope Association to file a complaint.
Chapter 32
The head of the Horoscope Association, responsible for handling such matters, assured Carl that they would provide him with an explanation. He then ordered Sienna to be taken in for an investigation.
Carl began lamenting how Cain had been treated, urging them to bring two masters to examine him. He emphasized that this situation involved a Horoscope Master and dark magic, and the Horoscope Association couldnโt afford to ignore it.
The head had no choice but to send two of the associationโs most skilled masters to accompany Carl to the hospital and assess the situation.
When they arrived at the hospital, Carl was confronted with the sight of Cain, his face severely swollen and his expression twisted in pain as he lay there.
Carl asked, โWhat happened?โ
Macaria looked at him, exasperated. โHeโs just had the worst luck.โ
โThe bed was tilted on one side, but suddenly it broke and collapsed.โ
โHis face slammed into the cabinet, causing it to swell up.โ
โWith the anesthesia wearing off and the movements he made earlier, the pain was unbearable for him.โ
She pointed to Cainโs legs and said, โAnd for some reason, his legs look like insects stung them. Theyโre covered in large welts, and he says it itches terribly.โ
โHe canโt reach it himself, so he keeps asking Jamur to scratch it for him.โ
At that moment, Janar sat at the bedside, using a scratching tool to ease Cainโs discomfort.
When Cain saw Carl enter, it was as if he had found his savior. With a trembling voice, Cain asked, โCarl, what did the Horoscope Association say?โ
โIโm about to break down,โ Cain groaned. When the anesthesia wore off, the pain in his upper body was unbearable, like his muscles were being torn apart over and over. After taking the medication, the pain finally began to subside. But then, the cursed bed broke, collapsing to the side, and he rolled off, the impact sending waves of pain that almost knocked him unconscious. His legs were covered in painful, itchy welts, and he couldnโt even reach them to scratch. At this point, he felt like he was on the brink of losing his mind. At that moment, his resentment toward Sienna reached new heights. He had never hated her this much before.
Carl, however, didnโt feel sympathy for Cain; it was all his own doing. He thought, As long as his life isnโt in danger, a little pain and hardship might do him good. At least itโll teach him not to make the same foolish mistakes again.
He turned to the two masters he had brought with him and said, โMasters, please take a look at Cain.โ
Both were older men with graying hair, one dressed in a traditional robe and the other in a plain robe.
A Taoist Master in a traditional robe examined Cain, frowning as he spoke. โHis luck is entirely out of balance; someone has drained a significant amount.โ
โNo wonder heโs been so unlucky.โ
The Ascetic Master, dressed in a plain robe, also looked and said, โIt seems the person he gave his luck to is closely connected to him.โ
โIt looks like he did this willingly, which means it canโt be undone.โ
โAt least, I canโt break it,โ the Master in the traditional robe sighed. โWith his condition, thereโs nothing I can do either!โ
To force a resolution, only Carlum can achieve it. He paused before adding, โWithin our entire Horoscope Association, only the president, vice president, and Master Flynn might be able to achieve it?โ
โThe president is in seclusion and wonโt be available anytime soon,โ the master continued. โThe vice president is away on business, and I donโt know when heโll return.โ
He looked at Carl and asked, โYouโre familiar with Master Flynn, right? At this point, youโll have to ask him for help.โ
Carl sighed in resignation. โMaster Flynn said heโs too busy lately, and wonโt be able to help until later.โ
Chapter 323
No wonder he acted so high and mighty. It turns out Phoebe has such influence within the Horoscope Association.
The Taoist Master in the traditional robe wasnโt surprised and added, โMaster Flynn is known for his cold demeanor and does things on his terms. The fact that he agreed to help is already a generous act.โ
โHe usually doesnโt get involved unless itโs necessary.โ
Carl had already noticed Master Flynnโs aloofness; he had no interest in associating with them.
โMaster Flynn likely agreed to help because of Phoebe,โ Carl muttered, glancing at Cain. โIn the end, Phoebe can always be trusted.โ
Carl thought, I never expected Elliot and his family to mistreat Phoebe. If I had known earlier, I wouldโve stepped in. But by the time I found out, it was too late. There was no way to fix it, and no pride was left to salvage.
