Chapter 325
I glanced at Lydia with disapproval. โThis is something Sienna and Cain caused. What does Phoebe have to do with it?โ Lydiaโs sense of pride was wounded by the gossip among friends and family. He realized that, due to recent issues with their sons, they had become the subject of gossip.
She felt embarrassed and, as a result, was taking her frustration out on Phoebe. Lydia said, โIf it werenโt for her conflict with Sienna, Cain and the others wouldnโt have been dragged into this terrible situation.โ
Elliot furrowed his brow. โWhat do you mean by that?โ
Macaria looked at Lydia with a disapproving expression. โIt was Sienna and Cain who started this. Phoebe was defending herself.โ
โAre you trying to embarrass us even more?โ Macaria thought, Lydia is getting more and more clueless. Sienna is the problem here. Why is Phoebe being dragged into it?
Lydia felt even more uncomfortable after Macariaโs harsh words. โIโm just thinking of Cain,โ she muttered. โIf this bad luck keeps up, I donโt know what will happen to him. Phoebe is his biological sister. If she can help, why is she being so heartless! I just want to talk to her.โ
Macaria, sensing Lydiaโs stubbornness, felt a surge of frustration. โPhoebe has already severed ties with you. If you go to her now, itโs just emotional blackmail. Not only will it not ease the situation, but it might push Phoebe further away.โ
Lydia, feeling defiant, responded, โPhoebeโs my daughter. Whatโs wrong with me talking to her?โ She looked determined, as if she had already decided to go.
Macaria, deeply frustrated, said, โFine, go ahead and make things worse.โ She turned to Carl and said, โWell, since theyโre here, we no longer need to get involved. Itโs best not to make things worse.โ It was clear that Lydia wasnโt happy with their interference. So, they decided not to get involved anymore.
Carl was also frustrated. After all their effort today, they still ended up with nothing but complaints. Thatโs why, in the past, they had always avoided getting involved in their childrenโs affairs. He didnโt want to get involved anymore. โAlright, letโs head back to the hotel and rest. Weโll leave for Solara City first thing in the morning.โ
He turned to Elliot and said, โTake care of your own family matters. Just make sure Lydia doesnโt regret it later.โ Carl thought, Lydia is getting more stubborn by the day. Once sheโs set on something, nothing will change her mind. If thatโs how she wants it, let her make her own mistakes and suffer the consequences. The few times they called them to the mansion for a talk didnโt help; it only worsened things and created resentment. Carl thought, At least this way, we wonโt be causing any more trouble. With that, he turned and walked out with Macaria.
Seeing this, Elliot couldnโt help but chase after them. Carl and Macaria immediately scolded him, and he returned to his room, defeated. He turned to Lydia with a stern look. โSo, now that Carl and Macaria arenโt involved, youโre happy!โ He knew that ever since Lydia had been scolded in front of the rest of the Jenkins family at the mansion, sheโd held a grudge against Carl and Macaria.
Eager for Carl and Macaria to stay out of it, Lydia snapped, โIโm not happy about anything.โ Lydia thought, Iโm glad theyโve left, though I canโt admit it out loud. She continued, โCarl and Macaria are too distant to go to Phoebe. Theyโre too embarrassed to ask her for help.โ
โIโm going to Phoebe.โ โThis is my responsibility, and I care about him. Thatโs whyโฆโ Seeing the stubbornness in her eyes, Elliot knew she wouldnโt back down. Sighing, he said, โFine, if youโre set on it, go ahead. I just hope you donโt end up regretting this.โ
Elliot thought, I have no pride left to face lโhorbe. Lydia scoffed. โIโm not counting on you anyway.โ Elliot frowned. โYou should distance yourself from Ophelia for a while.โ Lydia spent much time with Ophelia lately, often going out together. Over time, he noticed that Lydiaโs resentment toward Phoebe had only grown deeper. Ophelia had never liked Phoebe, always showing more favor toward Sienna. Elliot thought, Sheโs probably been stirring things up with Lydia all along. Over time, itโs bound to have an impact on her.
Lydia snapped. โWhatโs wrong with you managing my friendships? Are you overstepping?โ โI get along with Ophelia. So what if we spend more time together!โ Elliot paused for a moment. โI think thereโs something off about her. I donโt trust her and worry about her influence on you. Thatโs why Iโm trying to warn you.โ
Lydia dismissed him with a shake of her head. โI think youโre overreacting. Iโve always had a good relationship with Ophelia. Weโre just getting closer now.โ โThis is a matter for women, something you men wouldnโt understand, so itโs best to stay out of it.โ Sheโs been spending much time with Ophelia lately, confiding in her more than usual. The other partyโs daughter was not considerate at all. She only knew how to go against her biological mother.
Lydia thought, โBrenda is just as thoughtless, always going against Ophelia. Phoebe isnโt any better, always making a fool of me.โ Elliotโs expression darkened further. โYouโre utterly unreasonable.โ Lydia shot back, her expression hardening. โNo, youโre the one being unreasonable.โ
Seeing the argument escalating, Cain and Jamar exchanged confused looks. Jamar quickly stepped in, trying to break the tension. โElliot, Lydia, have you booked your hotel yet? Let me get you settled and you can rest.โ It was his way of breaking the brewing conflict between them.
Elliot sighed, still unsettled. โNo, we havenโt booked yet.โ โIโll stay here tonight to keep an eye on things,โ Elliot said, his concern evident. He didnโt feel comfortable leaving with Cain like this. Lydiaโs mind shifted quickly, and she turned to Jamar. โThereโs still availability at your place, right? Can you book two more rooms for us!โ
Lydia saw on the livestream that Jamar and Phoebe were teamed up, so they stayed at the same hotel. She thought, If thatโs the case, Iโll stay there too. Iโll be easier to find Phoebe. Jamar felt a chill run down his spine. He awkwardly replied, โAt this hour, there probably arenโt any rooms left.โ Jamar thought, I donโt feel right about putting Lydia and Phoebe together like this!
Lydiaโs expression darkened. โSo now youโre going against me, too?โ With a huff, she grabbed her bag and stormed off. Outside, she instructed her assistant to book a room at the hotel. As Lydia stormed off, Elliot, Cain, and Jamar exchanged bewildered glances. Elliot thought, Lydiaโs worked up, and we havenโt done anything to provoke her.
Cain looked at Elliot with a flicker of hope. โElliot, do you think Lydia can borrow the artifacts from Phoebe?โ Elliot sighed, shaking his head. โI doubt it.โ
Chapter 323
He spoke in a low tone. โIf she canโt get it, donโt blame Phoebe. After all, what you did before was pretty harsh.โ โThat has been mended and now sheโs lost in her stubbornness.โ He thought, I hope she doesnโt act impulsively. He knew that whatever he said now, Lydia wouldnโt listen.
Cain forced a smile. โI get it. I donโt have any right to blame her.โ Elliot stayed behind with the assistant, while Jamar headed back to Oriar. As soon as he entered the hotel, he saw Lydia walking in with her assistant. His expression shifted, and he asked, โLydia, what are you doing here?โ
Lydia shot him a glance. โIโm here to stay, of course. Since you werenโt going to help, I had to get someone else to book it.โ Jamar rubbed his forehead in frustration. โShould I show you to your room?โ Lydia snorted. โI canโt afford your help.โ With that, she turned and headed straight to the check-in desk with her assistant.
Jamar followed behind, his head pounding. When Lydia entered her room, he finally let out a relieved breath. He then turned and headed to his. After a moment, he pulled out his phone and sent Phoebe a message: [Lydiaโs checked into the hotel. Sheโll probably come looking for you.]
Phoebe had just stepped out of the shower when she heard her phone beep. She grabbed it and glanced at the message. After a brief pause, she replied: [What does she want with me? Is she after the artifacts I have!]
