Chapter 152: She Called Me What Now

Sure enough, it wasnโ€™t long before the elevator doors slid open. Wyatt stepped out in his pajamas and turned on the hall lights. The girl immediately threw herself at him, as if planning to take him down by force.

Wyatt frowned and said coldly, โ€œStop.โ€

She barely managed to halt in time, pointing pitifully behind her. โ€œWyatt, thereโ€™s an intruder in your room!โ€

Just then, Yunice stepped out, wrapped in a robe. The girl pointed accusingly. โ€œItโ€™s her! She even dared to sleep in your bedโ€”sheโ€™s completely shameless!โ€

Yunice had been sleeping on the first floor; his room was on the third. How could I possibly have ended up in his bed?

Wyatt glanced at Yunice, then back at the girl. โ€œDonโ€™t talk nonsense. Thatโ€™s your sister-in-law.โ€

โ€œSister-in-law?โ€ The girlโ€™s delicate expression began to crack like porcelain, as if she couldnโ€™t process the news.

Wyatt stepped around her and said, โ€œYou didnโ€™t hear I was getting married?โ€

The girl spun around to keep up with him, practically in tears. โ€œBut I heard it was fakeโ€”that you were just doing it to make Mr. Jackson happy. How could you let her stay in Pavilion Hall?โ€

Yunice tightened her grip on her robe, feeling more than a little awkward.

Wyatt didnโ€™t respond, but the girl wouldnโ€™t drop it. โ€œIf you married her, then what about Morganโ€”โ€

Before she could finish, Wyatt cut her off with an icy snap. โ€œAm I not allowed to get married?โ€

The girl flinched, clearly spooked, and didnโ€™t dare say another word. Wyattโ€™s expression was downright terrifying. Her eyes brimmed with tears, but all she could manage was a meek, โ€œIโ€™m soโ€ฆ wrong.โ€

Yunice walked over. She felt the need to clarify. โ€œWeโ€™re not really married. You donโ€™t need to see me as a threatโ€”Iโ€™m not here to get in the way of anyoneโ€™s relationship.โ€

The girlโ€™s tears finally spilled over. She gave Yunice a sidelong glance, probably thinking she was just pretending to be nice.

Wyatt turned to Yunice, needling her. โ€œNot threatening anyone? Sheโ€™s the Powell familyโ€™s adopted daughterโ€”Elanna Fiona.โ€

Adopted? Mustโ€™ve been recent. Iโ€™ve never heard of her before, Yunice thought. Some elite families adopted orphaned girls to strengthen alliances through marriage, but Elianna seemed a little too interested in the nearest eligible man.

Without missing a beat, Yunice extended a hand toward her. โ€œNice to meet you. Iโ€™m Yunice.โ€

โ€œWhyโ€™s your name Yunice tooโ€ฆ?โ€ Elianna muttered under her breath, but still shook her hand.

That one comment told Yunice everything she needed to knowโ€”Elianna didnโ€™t know much about the Powell family and had clearly been sidelined. She wasnโ€™t an important player.

Wyatt looked at the suitcase Elianna had left in the living room and asked, โ€œWhyโ€™d you come back at this hour?โ€

โ€œDad told me to. He said thereโ€™s a family banquet tomorrow and everyone needs to be there.โ€

She glanced at Yunice again, clearly confused why Jackson cared so much about this plain-looking woman.

Wyatt checked the time. It was already late. He turned to Elianna and said, โ€œPick any room you wantโ€”just donโ€™t bother your sister-in-law.โ€

Then he wrapped an arm around Yunice and guided her toward her room.

Eliannaโ€™s eyes went wide. Wait, what? Theyโ€™re going into my room?

Yunice tried to say something, but Wyatt gave her shoulder a firm squeeze, and she shut her mouth. She didnโ€™t know the Powell family that wellโ€”didnโ€™t know what was appropriate or notโ€”so for now, she figured sheโ€™d just go along with Wyatt.

He shut the door behind them, and Yunice could still hear faint crying from outside. Elianna had totally lost it.

Yunice locked the door behind them, then asked Wyatt, โ€œThis is your room?โ€

Wyatt sat on the edge of the bed and dodged the question. โ€œThe Powell family has a curfew. Since she came back this late, she could only crash here.โ€

That didnโ€™t sound right. Sure, there was a curfew, but it wasnโ€™t like an adopted daughter wasnโ€™t allowed to come home. And even if that were the case, there were hotels. Whyโ€™d she have to come here!

Still, if Wyatt was bothering to explain, it probably meant he didnโ€™t want her overthinking it. He pulled back the covers and lay down. โ€œGo to sleep.โ€

Yunice climbed in from the other side; they each stayed in their own space. If they were married, sharing a bed was bound to happen eventually. But thanks to Eliannaโ€™s drama, Yunice wasnโ€™t sleepy anymore.

Out of nowhere, Wyatt reached over and pulled her into his arms. Startled, Yunice pressed against his chest, trying to push him away, but he easily locked her in place.

With his chin resting on the top of her head, Wyatt closed his eyes and murmured, โ€œDonโ€™t move.โ€

Yunice pressed a silver needle against his throat. โ€œDonโ€™t think just because Iโ€™m not rejecting you that you can keep pushing your luck.โ€

Wyatt lifted her chin and kissed her.
