Chapter 673 Rules of Blood
โMy wife is part of me. Did I give you the illusion that some outsider had the right to lay a hand on whatโs mine? Then that illusion ends today. You need to be reminded who you should really be currying favor with.โ
Madam Mary and Shane exchanged a panicked look.
What was he trying to prove?
Wyattโs gaze swept over the two. โWhich of you was behind this?โ
Madam Mary frowned, her tone sharp. โShane had nothing to do with it. I was the one who planned everything. I know sheโs your wife, but since your mother passed Carly, I thought Iโd help by softening her temper. Look at herโnarrow-minded, vulgar, rude even to me. Youโd really trust someone like that by your side? And why are you angry? I didnโt actually hurt her. Do you see a single puncture wound on her body?โ
Wyatt replied, โStrange, Iโve never noticed my wife being narrow-minded or vulgar.โ
Madam Mary snapped back, righteous and indignant, โMorgan didnโt commit any crime on purpose, and the one who died wasnโt even a close relative of hers. Yet she refuses to let it go. Morgan just got approved for medical parole, and I already saw people surveilling the hospital. In Silverburghโs upper circles, every rich family has a screw-up or two. They all cover it up with a wink and a slap on the wrist, and itโs over. But she forced you to push Morgan to his deathโhow is that not narrow-minded? Yunice, if you donโt change your attitude, youโll never be accepted among the Silverburgh elite. Youโre an unruly outsider who breaks the rules!โ
Wyatt gave a cold laugh. โThen youโre mistaken. Only weak people change themselves to fit in. She doesnโt need to. With me around, everyone else can either suck up to her or get out of the way. And sure, thereโll be other โunruly outsidersโโbut thatโs fine. Iโll deal with them one by one and write new rules.โ
Madam Maryโs face went pale. Was she the outsider he meant?
Wyatt said, โWhatever you did to my wife, Iโll return it in kind.โ
He turned to Shane. โSheโs your responsibility. Handle it.โ
A bodyguard stepped in silently and placed a chair behind Wyatt. He sat beside Yunice, calm and steady.
Shane stared blankly at the box of suturing needles now placed in front of him, completely lost. โWyattโฆ. I donโt understand what you meanโฆโ
Wyatt answered, โThe old woman was the one behind it, yes. But sheโs not mobile. Instead of stopping her, you brought her here to torment my wife. So tell me, who brought her in?โ
Shane swallowed hard. โSoโฆ โhandle itโ meansโฆโ
He knew what it meant. He just couldnโt believe Wyatt would actually go that far.
This woman was his motherโhis lifesaver!
Wyattโs cold stare landed on the needle in Shaneโs hand.
Suddenly, the needle felt scorching hot. Shane nearly dropped it.
Madam Maryโs face twisted. โWyatt, how dare you?! Over some seductress, youโd do this to the woman who saved your life? Arenโt you afraid people will curse your name?โ
โI am,โ Wyatt said evenly. โIโm afraid they wonโt talk about my wife enoughโthen people like you will keep showing up to cause trouble.โ
The old womanโs brows drew together. She stared at him in disbelief. โWyatt, how did you become like this?โ
Wyatt looked up. โIโve always been like this. You just mistook me for a fool.โ
โYouโre calculating and cold-blooded. You never lift a finger unless thereโs something in it for you. Lives mean nothing to youโjust ants underfoot. You saved my mother only because you guessed I was from the Powell family. You took a chance, like buying a lottery ticket. Maybe one day, it would pay off.โ
Madam Maryโs eyes flickered with guilt.
Wyatt scoffed. โEverything I did for you these past years was theaterโfor the Powell family. It made them believe I was loyal to Nora. They hid her away thinking they had leverage over me.โ
Shane was stunned. โYou used Nora? You never loved her?โ
โThat canโt beโฆ you were with her because-โ
He looked toward Yunice in disbelief, his gaze searching.
A spark of realization flashed through his mind.
Could it be that Wyatt had always loved Yunice? That Nora was chosen as a placeholder?
Wyatt caught the look in Shaneโs eyes, watching for Yuniceโs reaction.
He wasnโt sure if she had heard that recording yet. He wanted to know what she thought.
But Yunice sat quietly, hands twisting the jacket on her lapโexpressionless.
Wyattโs eyes darkened.
Those fools had scared his wife so badly, she couldnโt even think straight.
His voice turned sharp. โWhat are you waiting for?โ
Shaneโs voice trembled. โWyatt.. we were wrong, I admit it. But my momโs old, and she has chronic illnesses. If you put that needle in her, she might not survive. Please, just let her go this onceโฆโ
