Chapter 685 The Truth About Elsie

The man in the white coat closed his eyes for a moment before continuing.

โ€œMy wife was humiliated by them over and over. The mental strain triggered unbearable contractions. She tried to call me for help, but Yunice snatched her phone away. While my wife was screaming in pain and begging for help, they laughed and filmed her giving birth. They threatened herโ€”told her to deliver on her own and not trouble them. If she dared to speak up after leaving the operating room, theyโ€™d release the video so the whole internet could see how disgusting she looked. My wife was in agony, frantic with fear, and started bleeding heavily. And Owen, as the lead surgeon, actually went to see other patients instead of helping her. She took her last breath to the sound of Yuniceโ€™s laughter, buried in fear and pain.

โ€œAfterward, the Saunders family used their connections to hand me some hush money. They even stirred up public opinion, claiming Iโ€™d had an affair and had killed my wife and child on purpose. The lies spread so far that I couldnโ€™t get help anywhere.โ€

He paused, then let out a twisted laugh, as if aware he wouldnโ€™t be leaving here alive. โ€œBut Iโ€™ve already had my revenge. Did you think Iโ€™d let Yunice die so easily? Noโ€ฆ I want her to feel my wifeโ€™s pain. No, a thousand times worse.โ€

Scarface frowned. What did that mean?

Hadnโ€™t Elsie already died? And not just diedโ€”sheโ€™d passed away from severe injuries, with Owen and Lily crying at her side.

If that was true, she hadnโ€™t suffered much in the end.

As Wyattโ€™s subordinate, Scarface had always thought Elsie got off too easy. In their old way of doing things, even if Elsie was on the brink of death, theyโ€™d have shocked her back to life over and over, making sure she couldnโ€™t die no matter how much she wanted to.

He finished the thought and then noticed something strangeโ€”Wyatt and Yunice didnโ€™t look surprised at all.

The man in the white coat noticed too. โ€œWhy arenโ€™t you shocked? Youโ€“โ€

โ€œI know,โ€ Yunice said calmly. โ€œElsie never died.โ€

Their commotion had roused Lily from her drugged slumber.

The anesthesia left her groggy and limp, unable to move.

Yunice turned to her and met her open eyes.

โ€œElsie is the one who killed your wife and child,โ€ she said, each word deliberate. โ€œIโ€™m Yunice. She took their lives, and she stole my name and my life too. You donโ€™t want her to die so easily? I feel the same.โ€

Both Lily and the man in the white coat stared at her in shock.

โ€œYouโ€ฆ you know sheโ€™s alive?โ€ the man stammered. โ€œThenโ€ฆ you know where she is?โ€

Yunice shot him a look. โ€œHow do you think you managed to swap her out?โ€

The man fell silent.

On the bed, Lily made a gurgling sound, her eyes pleading to speak. But the leftover anesthesia made it impossible to move or form words.

Yunice walked over and stopped beside her, her voice cold. โ€œYou want to ask if Elsieโ€™s really alive?โ€

โ€œYes, sheโ€™s alive. When she โ€˜diedโ€˜ in Owenโ€™s and your arms, she still had a breath left. I made sure she lived. I used a special formula to put her into a state of temporary death. When they took her body to the crematorium, this man stole her โ€˜corpseโ€˜โ€”and thatโ€™s when she woke up.โ€

Lilyโ€™s expression twisted, fury and desperation filling her eyes.

Seeing her struggling to move her fingers, Yunice said softly, โ€œHate me?โ€

โ€œIf you knew what kind of life Elsieโ€™s had these past three months, you might hate me even more.โ€

โ€œBut youโ€™d better control yourself.โ€

Her finger pointed to Lilyโ€™s chest. โ€œYou just had a liver donation surgery. Donโ€™t get too worked up, or you might never see your precious daughter again.โ€

Lilyโ€™s eyes widened further. The slight movement in her hand froze as she instinctively tried to touch her chest.

She felt no pain, no sense of what had been doneโ€”thanks to the anesthesia still in effect.

โ€œOwen has liver cancer,โ€ Yunice told her. โ€œHe cut out two-thirds of your liver to save himself. Afraid you wouldnโ€™t agree, he went ahead and did it on his own.โ€

Lilyโ€™s gaze went blank. Whether it was too much to process or too devastating to accept, she didnโ€™t react for a long time.

โ€œPost guards,โ€ Yunice said to Scarface. โ€œDonโ€™t let her die.โ€

Scarface looked down at the man he was holding. โ€œWhat about him?โ€

โ€œLet him go where he needs to go,โ€ Yunice said with a glance.

โ€œPolice station?โ€ Scarface asked cautiously.

Yunice didnโ€™t say no. As Wyatt passed by, he gave Scarface a look.

Scarface understood and nodded.
