Chapter 741 Into the Operating Room

Yuniceโ€™s trembling hand rose, and Wyatt covered it with his own, stroking gently to calm her.

Her eyes burned red. โ€œLeave me here and go for help. Otherwise, neither of us will make it.โ€

Wyatt tried to lift her again. โ€œNo.โ€

She grabbed his collar, forcing his gaze to hers. โ€œWyatt, think clearly! If I could walk on my own, Iโ€™d never ask you to leave me!โ€

But carrying her meant he bled more, drained more strength.

Wyatt only tightened his hold, stubbornly descending the stairs. โ€œI will never leave again. Six years ago, I failed you. Not this time.โ€

โ€œWyatt!โ€ a voice echoed from aboveโ€”Jordan.

His steps pounded closer.

Relief lit Yuniceโ€™s face. โ€œJordan! Weโ€™re here! Nineteenth floor stairwell!โ€

She turned hopefully toward Wyattโ€”only to realize he wasnโ€™t reacting. He just kept moving, step after step, as if sheer willpower were pulling his body along.

โ€œWyatt! Madam!โ€ Jordan rounded the corner, froze at the sight of them, then rushed down.

Yuniceโ€™s voice broke with relief.

Jordan snapped back into motion. โ€œThe ambulance is downstairs! Wyatt, give Madam to me. Iโ€™ll carry her!โ€

But Wyatt wouldnโ€™t let go.

โ€œWyatt! Look at me!โ€ Jordan barked. โ€œItโ€™s Jordan. Iโ€™m here to help. If you donโ€™t hand her over, sheโ€™ll suffer for it!โ€

At last, Wyattโ€™s pupils shifted, as if heโ€™d only just recognized him.

Jordan reached for Yunice again, and this time Wyatt released her.

Jordan hoisted her onto his back and dashed down the stairs.

โ€œIโ€™ll get you to the ambulance first, then come back for Wyatt. Donโ€™t worryโ€”weโ€™ve seen worse. This is nothing.โ€

He kept up a steady stream of chatter to stop Yunice from drifting into unconsciousness.

She whispered faintly, โ€œIโ€™m pregnantโ€ฆโ€

โ€œJordan, tell Joeโ€”save my baby.โ€

Jordan stumbled for a moment, then nodded hard. โ€œI promise. Iโ€™ll remember.โ€

When Yunice was carried out, the medics swarmed her immediately.

At the hospital, two gurneys rushed down opposite hallways, passing each other for the briefest instant before vanishing into different wings.

Yunice, still conscious, caught a fleeting glimpse of Wyatt as she was wheeled into surgery.

The surgical lights flared above her.

โ€œJoe,โ€ she called weakly.

โ€œMadam?โ€ Joe appeared in her line of sight, already in scrubs. He was ready to fight for her and the child.

โ€œJoe, howโ€™s Wyatt?โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t worry,โ€ Joe said, brisk but steady. โ€œWeโ€™re fully equipped. Even if heโ€™s at deathโ€™s door, weโ€™ll pull him back. And with his daughter waiting, he wonโ€™t dare give up. Focus on yourselfโ€”weโ€™ll save the baby together.โ€

Yunice exhaled, then rallied her strength. โ€œThen let me write some prescriptions.โ€

โ€œGo ahead,โ€ Joe said, working quickly as he listened. โ€œMr. Carl and Laurie are outside. The hall is packedโ€”everyoneโ€™s worried about you.โ€

For once, Yunice felt like a daughter others truly cared about.

Outside the operating rooms, the families paced restlessly.

โ€œHow could she be pregnant now?โ€

โ€œDidnโ€™t she know herself?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s a doctor. Of course, she knew.โ€

Laurie suddenly remembered the pills sheโ€™d once seen in Yuniceโ€™s bag. At the time sheโ€™d been puzzled. Now she realizedโ€”they had been anti-nausea medication.

Yunice had known. She had hidden it.

โ€œShe wanted to have the baby in secret. Raise it on her own.โ€

โ€œBut why? Did she think Wyatt wouldnโ€™t care for his own child?โ€

โ€œYunice has no sense of security. Sheโ€™s afraid someone will take it from her.โ€

Freya crossed her arms. โ€œLetโ€™s see who dares touch my niece or nephew. Theyโ€™re ours to protect.โ€

Jordan clicked his tongue. โ€œHold it. That child is half Cooper blood. We have every right to be involved, donโ€™t we?โ€

โ€œNonsense. Yunice is the one giving birthโ€”whatโ€™s it got to do with you?โ€

โ€œBe reasonable. Nobody pops out of a rock. The birth certificate will have Wyattโ€™s name, wonโ€™t it? How can you say we donโ€™t count?โ€

โ€œThe baby isnโ€™t even born yet, and youโ€™re already fighting. No wonder Yunice wanted to keep it secret.โ€

Jordan: โ€œโ€ฆโ€
