Chapter 742 Iโ€™ll See Who Dares

Carl was the first to speak. โ€œHowโ€™s Wyatt holding up?โ€ Then he muttered, โ€œA child without a father isnโ€™t ideal.โ€

Victor scoffed. โ€œHardly a problem. There are plenty of men eager to play father.โ€

Jordan froze, eyes flashing with alarm. He quickly turned and bolted toward Wyattโ€™s operating room. These people really were plotting to strip the father and keep the child. He had to warn Wyatt.

Jordan banged on the operating room door. โ€œWyatt! Wyatt! Itโ€™s urgent!โ€ The door cracked open. A nurse poked her head out, scolding, โ€œThis is a surgery in progress! You canโ€™t just shout like that!โ€ โ€œI know, I know,โ€ Jordan said quickly, but he forced his way inside. He shouted past her, โ€œWyatt! Wyatt! Theyโ€™re scheming out hereโ€”saying they want to cut you out, take your daughter as their own. Theyโ€™re waiting for you to die so they can be her stepdaddies!โ€

The nurse shoved him back furiously. โ€œAre you insane? Do you know what youโ€™re doing, yelling that in the middle of an operation?โ€ โ€œTch. Fine, fine, Iโ€™ll leaveโ€ฆโ€ Jordan muttered. But just as the nurse turned to close the door, a pale, bloodstained hand shot out, gripping the frame.

The nurse froze. She turned back, wide-eyed, to see the tall figure standing there. His hair was damp with sweat, his body trembling from blood loss, but his gaze was razor-sharp. Wyatt. His voice was raw, low, each word bitten out: โ€œWhat did you just say? Say it again.โ€

Jordan: โ€œโ€ฆโ€

Outside Yuniceโ€™s operating room, hurried footsteps thundered closer. Heads turned in shock. Wyatt appeared, shoulders draped in a coat, his expression dark, dangerous, every step radiating fury. Victor jerked to his feet instinctively, eyes sweeping Wyatt up and down. How could he even be standing after such injuriesโ€”let alone look this fierce?

Before he could think, the words slipped out. โ€œWyatt, what are you doing here?โ€ Wyattโ€™s reply was slow, deliberate, steel in every syllable. โ€œI came to see who dares lay a hand on my daughter.โ€ The hall went silent.

Freya dragged a hand down her face. โ€œWyatt, you really are impossible.โ€ Wyattโ€™s glare fixed on Victor, his look sharp, mocking. โ€œImpossible? For some people, being kept in line is necessary.โ€

Victor stiffened. โ€œBesides,โ€ he shot back, โ€œitโ€™s not up to you. Only Yunice decides. And sheโ€™s barely four months alongโ€”yet you keep calling it a daughter. What, if itโ€™s a boy, youโ€™ll throw him away?โ€ Wyatt snorted coldly. โ€œSave your games. Son or daughter, theyโ€™re mine.โ€

Laurie finally snapped. โ€œEnough! The lot of you, stop embarrassing yourselves. None of this matters right now. Your words mean nothing.โ€ Wyatt fell silent, then moved to the door of Yuniceโ€™s operating room. His face was drawn, but his voice betrayed his worry. โ€œHow is she?โ€

Laurie, seeing how pale he was, softened. โ€œJoe came out earlier. Said sheโ€™s stable. Margaret starved her for a day and the bleeding triggered contractions. Itโ€™s a miracle the baby held on. Yunice is toughโ€“tougher than most. Otherwise, the shock alone wouldโ€™ve ended it.โ€ Carl muttered, โ€œOne child is enough.โ€

Wyatt nodded. That was all he wanted too. After a pause, he asked, โ€œWhen will she be out?โ€ Laurie replied, โ€œJoe said she needs observation. A day at least before sheโ€™s moved to a ward. Sheโ€™s stronger than you right now. You should worry about yourselfโ€”youโ€™re the one who might keel over and scare her half to death.โ€

โ€œWill I?โ€ Wyatt asked flatly. Laurie gave him a look. โ€œYou want me to slap you?โ€

The operating room door opened. Joe stepped out, startled to see them all clustered there. โ€œWhy are you still waiting? Go home, all of you. Sheโ€™s fineโ€”truly fine. Donโ€™t waste your strength loitering here. If Yunice comes out and youโ€™re all collapsed in the hall, what use is that?โ€ Checking his watch, he added, โ€œTomorrow morning, nine oโ€™clock, sheโ€™ll be moved to a care ward. Wait for her there if you must.โ€

โ€œFine. Letโ€™s get some rest,โ€ Freya said, taking charge, tugging Carl along. Gill lingered to the last. โ€œSir.โ€ โ€œGo,โ€ Wyatt told him.

Gill hesitated. โ€œYunice hasnโ€™t eaten properly for days. If she could have oats from that shop by the schoolโ€ฆโ€ โ€œIโ€™ll get them. Come early tomorrow,โ€ Wyatt said. Gill nodded. He knew Wyatt would make sure Yunice got the comfort food she craved.
