Adam froze. What had Celine taken to make her pass out? Birth control pills? He wanted to ask for clarification, but before he could, the call ended with two short beeps—Hailey had hung up.
Carly overheard. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she turned to Adam. “Adam, did I hear that right? Celine fainted because she took birth control pills?”
Adam didn't respond. He pushed her off his lap, stood up, and said, “I’m going to Yorhine University.”
Before Carly could react, he left. She turned to Lucy. “Mom, what’s going on? Adam and Celine didn’t even… do anything. Why would Celine need birth control pills?”
Lucy looked grim. “Don’t worry, Carly. I’ll figure it out.”
Adam arrived at Yorhine University and headed straight for the campus infirmary. Hailey exclaimed, rushing to grab his arm, “Mr. Alvarez, you’re finally here! Come, look at Celine!” She pulled him toward a bed.
Adam saw Celine’s frail figure curled up. Even in her fragile state, she possessed a heart-wrenching beauty. Her eyelashes fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes.
“Celine, you’re awake!” Hailey said, helping her sit up.
Celine froze when she saw Adam. “Why are you here?”
He stood tall and imposing. “Hailey called me.”
Celine hadn't expected Hailey to call Adam after her allergic reaction to the birth control pills. She turned to Hailey, her voice soft. “Hailey, you shouldn’t have…”
But Hailey cut her off. “Celine, you had an allergic reaction to birth control pills! Of course, I called him. He needs to take responsibility for this!”
She then turned to Adam, her tone accusatory. “Mr. Alvarez, do you have any idea how harmful birth control pills can be? Celine is allergic! If you didn’t want a child, you should have taken precautions! It’s not fair to indulge yourself and leave her to suffer!”
Her words hung in the air. Celine’s face flushed red, and she whispered, “Hailey, stop it. Please.”
Adam, his imposing frame casting a shadow, gazed down at Celine with a cold expression. His words were directed at Hailey: “You can leave now.”
“Alright, I’ll leave you two to talk,” Hailey replied, exiting.
Alone with Celine, Adam's cold voice pierced the silence. He began, “Have you been spending a lot of time with Nathan lately?”
Celine, caught off guard, nodded quietly. “Yeah.” She had been with Nathan at the hospital.
Adam smirked. "So, it's Nathan," he thought. "Were they so careless they didn't use protection?" His gaze grew colder. "Why are you taking birth control pills?"
Celine’s lashes fluttered. “I don’t want to get pregnant.”
Adam nodded slowly. “Makes sense. But let me make something clear—if you end up with some bastard child, don’t expect me to claim it.”
Celine stared at him, shocked. A bastard child? The warmth drained from her. He could sleep with her and discard her, yet he inflicted such cruelty.
Adam's smirk widened. “And after all that, you still had the nerve to call me? Don’t call me again.”
Celine’s face flushed crimson. She knew Adam's words were weapons, wounding deeply.
