Adam hadn't done anything that day, but he knew everything that had happened. Leo was confused. "Mr. Alvarez," he said, "today the Tate family went to Mr. Lambert and Perry for help, but both sent them to Celine, saying she's the only one who can settle this. What do you think they meant?"
Adam's handsome face was half-hidden in the dim light, giving him a mysterious air. "What do you think it means?"
Leo shook his head. "I can't think of anything."
Adam smiled mysteriously. "Either Celine knows Dr. C, or Celine is Dr. C!"
"What?" Leo gasped. "Ms. Celine is Dr. C? How is that possible?"
Adam faced the window. Night had fallen, and the city lights twinkled. He snorted. "Yes. I didn't think it was possible either. How can the person who cared for me for three years while I was comatose be the nation-renowned genius, Dr. C? I don't believe it either."
Leo said, "Then it's more likely that Ms. Celine knows Dr. C."
Adam nodded. "That's more likely. After all"
"After all?"
Adam's voice turned cold. "After all, Perry knows Dr. C. He's well-connected, so it's not surprising. Since Celine is now with him, of course she would know Dr. C as well."
Leo nodded. "Yes."
"You may leave. Let's see if Celine can find the fake Dr. C before we do tomorrow."
"Yes, Mr. Alvarez." Leo left.
Adam was alone in his apartment. Celine's apartment was opposite his. He checked his phone; it was still empty. She hadn't replied to his messages. During their three years of marriage, she'd usually send numerous messages daily, but he'd ignored them. Now, their roles were reversed; she was ignoring him. Even though their apartments were opposite each other, the distance between them felt vast.
The next day, Sonia arrived at the Tate Manor with Hayden and Wayne's families. Police tape blocked the entrance. They could only stand at the doorway. Sonia looked anxious. "The agreed-upon time is almost here. Why isn't Celine here yet?"
Carly laughed coldly. "I don't believe Celine can catch the fake Dr. C. I want to see if she's lying."
A heavy mood settled over everyone. Suddenly, a Rolls-Royce stopped. Adam's handsome face appeared in the backseat window. He had come to observe the exchange.
Leo, the driver, glanced at the time. "Mr. Alvarez, it's almost time, but Ms. Celine still isn't here."
Adam showed no emotion. Would you be coming, Celine?
