Listen to this chapter:

The Tate family wanted to pay their respects to Aaron. Celine didnโ€™t refuse. She watched as Sonia led the family in placing flower bouquets before the tombstone before they all bowed together.

โ€œAaron, Mom is here to see you.โ€

Hayden and Wayne bowed as well. โ€œAaron, weโ€™re here to pay our respects.โ€

The bouquets were placed nicely before Aaronโ€™s tombstone. Sonia turned to Celine. โ€œCeline, weโ€™re still a family. Aaron may have been adopted, but he was a son, and I was his mother. Thereโ€™s no need for us to destroy each other. Here, at his gravesite, letโ€™s put the past behind us and make peace.โ€

She wanted reconciliation.

Celine let out a cold laugh, her sharp gaze locking onto Sonia. โ€œYes, my father called you mother. But what kind of mother kills her own son? You all murdered him, and now you stand before his grave, shamelessly asking for reconciliation?โ€

Her eyes swept over Hayden, Lucy, Wayne, and Hazel. โ€œLet me ask you thisโ€”if I werenโ€™t Dr. C, would any of you have come to pay respects to my father?โ€

They surely had not suddenly grown a conscience. They were only here because of her status as Dr. C. The Tate family had no sense of morality. They only preyed on the weak. Since then, Celine would never let them get away with it.

Hayden spoke up. โ€œCeline, must you be so aggressive? Aaron truly raised a remarkable daughter. Not only were you a Haffard prodigy, but you also became the legendary Dr. C. However, does that mean you need to turn against your own family?โ€

Wayne chimed in, โ€œThatโ€™s right, Celine. Donโ€™t be so heartless. You still carry the Tate name.โ€

They were trying to guilt-trip her.

Celine let out another cold laugh. โ€œYou all severed ties with me long ago. If it werenโ€™t for my father, I wouldโ€™ve changed my last name already. The Tate last name disgusts me!โ€

Soniaโ€™s face darkened. โ€œYouโ€”โ€

Cady stepped forward. โ€œCeline, we have treated you with respect and have sincerely asked for peace, yet you remain ungrateful.โ€

โ€œYou want peace? Thatโ€™s impossible!โ€ Celine retorted.

Tracy scoffed. โ€œIf thatโ€™s the case, then we have no choice but to become enemies.โ€

Celine looked at them. โ€œDonโ€™t forgetโ€”Carly has a heart condition. She still needs me to save her. I have time to make sure every wart's too long, sheโ€™ll be dead.โ€

Carly sneered. โ€œCeline, are you really that confident? What if I told you I have a way toโ€”โ€

Celine raised an eyebrow. โ€œOh? Go on then, Iโ€™m listening.โ€

Lucy smirked. โ€œItโ€™s not Carly who has a way, nor is it the Tate family. Itโ€™s our powerful backer.โ€ Celineโ€™s eyes narrowed slightly.

Lucy continued, โ€œYou already know, donโ€™t you? Thatโ€™s right. Itโ€™s Mr. Alvarez.โ€

As soon as she finished speaking, a black Rolls-Royce pulled up into view. Les stepped out and respectfully opened the rear door. A tall, imposing figure stepped outโ€”Adam had arrived.

Carlyโ€™s face lit up with delight as she rushed forward. โ€œAdam, youโ€™re here!โ€

Adamโ€™s cold gaze fell on Celineโ€™s face. His deep voice rang out, โ€œCeline, whether you want to or not, you have no choice. You must treat Carlyโ€™s heart condition.โ€
