Revenge Forged in Prison

Chapter 31: As Long As You Are Alive

“Is that so? I guess I’ll have to thoroughly check it then.”

The corners of Miriam’s mouth were wet with drool, her eyes shimmering with avarice.

“As you wish.”

George gave a sycophantic smile, then, with a sudden forceful push, he caused Caleb to stumble.

“Are you even listening? Don’t you know Madam Yardley wants to inspect the goods?”

Caleb glanced at Miriam, then shifted his gaze to George.

“Heh. Now that you’ve realized I’m no longer useful, you’re ready to sell me off? Just like that, you’re throwing away twenty years of our bond. I truly regret ever gifting you that tie!”

George was taken aback. Back when Caleb was still the young master of the Quixall family, he had once gifted him a tie. Though the tie wasn’t anything extravagant, it still captured Caleb’s sentiments. That day, it was Caleb’s birthday.

“Dad, you and Mom brought me into this world and worked tirelessly to raise me. Rather than throwing a birthday party for me, I’d rather you pay more attention to your own health.”

At that moment, George was all smiles, feeling a profound warmth in his heart.

“You’re such a good boy. I’ll give you all the best things in life. Even Quixall Group will be yours one day!”

The days of loving father and son were irrevocably gone, and when compared to reality, it simply felt absurd. A hint of regret flashed in George’s eyes. “It’s not that I don’t care about our relationship; it’s your brother, he…”

Caleb was unrelenting. “Why didn’t you offer yourself up? Does sacrificing others come so easily to you?”

George was left speechless from the retort, and he left with his head hung low. The tie he received back then had been discarded long ago due to a single remark from Jesse.

“Dad, isn’t your tie a bit outdated?” he asked. “People might make fun of you for wearing something like that.”

Out with the old, in with the new. George took his younger son’s words as gospel, discarding everything related to Caleb. Now, he even had to let go of Caleb himself.

Chapter 31: As Long As You Are Alive

“Whether you want to or not, there’s no other way. Your father has already given you to me. We have an agreement. Within the confines of that agreement, I can do as I please with you, as long as I don’t kill you.”

Caleb was tied to a chair, completely immobilized. The scene reminded him of his life in prison. A few of the inmates were particularly cruel in their games, taking pleasure in tying people up only to whip them mercilessly afterward. Caleb was a newcomer in prison; naturally, he couldn’t escape their malicious actions.

Lash after lash struck his body, and the physical pain was intense, yet the pain in his heart was even more unbearable. With every additional wound he bore, his resentment toward the Quixall family intensified. He kept repeating to himself – I’ve repaid the kindness of twenty years, and from this point forward, I owe you nothing.

Surprisingly, the Quixall family pursued him relentlessly. Even after his release from prison, they refused to let him be. In fact, he even had to forfeit his own life to save Jesse.

A cold smirk tugged at the corners of his mouth. Caleb couldn’t contain the surge of emotions welling up within him and burst into loud laughter.

“All this talk of family and loyalty is all nonsense!”

“Two decades of affection pale in comparison to their betrayal. It feels as if the purpose of my life is to be their sacrifice!”

Miriam was uncertain about what had gotten into Caleb, and a sense of fear welled up within her. Seeing that something was amiss, the bodyguard stepped in front of her to shield her.

“Be careful, Madam Yardley, this man is a lunatic. He might hurt you anytime!”

Nevertheless, Miriam regained her composure, approaching Caleb.

“What’s there to be afraid of? He’s all tied up. How could he possibly kill me?”
