Chapter 33: It Was All a Plot

When Miriam was cutting the rope, she used the opportunity to grope Caleb. Caleb frowned, enduring it, and imagining himself being bitten by a dog. As she was cutting, Miriam’s actions abruptly halted. Caleb felt uneasy, but he still managed to maintain a facade of calm.

“What’s wrong?”

Miriam furrowed her brow. “Why is a section of the rope frayed?”

Caleb’s heart pounded rapidly. “I’m not sure. Maybe because it was dark at night, they just grabbed a random rope without noticing it.”

“I guess so.”

Miriam relaxed her brow; her chubby cheeks quivered slightly. “They must have been slacking off again. I’ll have to give them a piece of my mind later.”

Relieved, Caleb patiently waited for Miriam to finish her task. After waiting for fifteen minutes, Caleb finally found relief. The reason was that Miriam was terrible with her hands, working slower than an ordinary person would.

After finishing, Miriam lifted her face, revealing an expression she believed to be seductive. “My hand hurts. Blow on it for me.”

At that moment, a chill ran down Caleb’s spine. Suppressing his revulsion, he blew lightly on the pair of plump, fleshy hands before him. He then asked, “Is it okay now?”

“Mmm-hmm.” Miriam chuckled. “Should we get down to business now?”

It’s time. Caleb swallowed. “You should lay down first. This position requires me to take the lead.”

However, Miriam was displeased. “That won’t do. I should be the one on top!”

Suddenly, she grabbed Caleb’s shoulder, pulling him toward her. “Come over. Let me show you my skills!”

Every corner of the prison was fraught with danger. It was a place Caleb would never find safety. Feeling the force on his shoulder, his instinct was to perform a shoulder throw. However, due to Miriam’s…

Miriam laughed, abruptly lunging forward. “I’m more skillful at this game than you. Start by taking off your clothes!”

With a swift shift of his feet, Caleb easily dodged. Miriam lunged at thin air, awkwardly falling to the ground.

“You… You… How could you?”

After biting into dust by accident, she felt anger simmering within her. “Don’t be ungrateful! Untying you was a favor because I see potential in you. Who do you think you are? I’m telling you, your father and I agreed on this long ago! The moment Jesse’s heart disease acted up, you would be sent to me!”

In that instant, Caleb had a sudden realization. They had this planned so long ago? After I was tormented to the brink of death, they swooped in to rescue me, pretending to be my saviors. Once I was ensnared by familial affection, they swiftly betrayed me, sacrificing my heart in exchange for Jesse’s life. From beginning to end, this was nothing but a plot.

With a surge of determination, Caleb seized his opportunity while Miriam was still down to plunge his knife into her ribcage. Miriam was in such pain that she couldn’t even make a sound, but her gaze gradually became terrifying. Does he really think he could betray me and walk away unscathed? As long as he remains in this city, I’m going to make him suffer!

Bang! The basement door suddenly swung open, and the bodyguards’ expressions turned wary, unsure of what had just transpired. Several unidentified objects came hurtling toward them, causing the bodyguards to react in shock and scramble out of the way. Seizing the tight window, Caleb darted out. The two bodyguards were just about to give chase when they heard their companion exclaim, “Mdm. Yardley is hurt. We need a doctor, quick!”

Mdm. Yardley is hurt? This is bad! The faces of the bodyguards turned ashen, as if the end of the world was upon them. The following days would be even more unbearable for them. If Miriam failed to capture Caleb, she would vent her anger on others. As for who those venting outlets were, the answer couldn’t be any clearer.
