Revenge Forged in Prison
Chapter 35: I Saw Him
Caleb’s expression was calm. “Then, let’s wait and see.” 80% Finished.
Caleb could tell it was likely the first time Miriam had been hurt by her “plaything,” judging by the look in her eyes. There was nothing but shock and disbelief. Given her strong-headedness, it wasn’t hard to guess that as long as she had a breath left, she would be relentless in capturing him. The housekeepers had been searching for at least fifteen minutes, so Caleb figured Miriam must have been growing impatient. If the housekeepers couldn’t manage, she would personally step in. This was the impression she left on Caleb.
The woman spoke with an intrigued tone. “If you win, I’ll let you go. But what if you lose?”
“If I lose, I’ll return to the basement on my own, and then sever one of my own arms.”
The gruesome answer caused the woman to dismiss it with a wave of her hand. “Forget it. If you lose, how about becoming a slave at my private residence?”
“Deal.”
Caleb was quite pleased with this outcome. Earlier, he had raised the stakes, in an effort to get the woman to accept his bet. The result showed that it was a decent move.
After about three more minutes, a clamor could be heard coming from the mansion.
“Mdm. Yardley, your wound hasn’t been fully treated yet. You can’t just wander around!”
“Shut up! I am absolutely determined to kill that brat today! Cough… cough cough!”
A large group of people were surrounding Miriam, who was walking in Caleb’s direction incredibly slowly. Upon seeing the situation, Caleb curled his lips into a smirk. “I won.”
The woman spread her hands. “Fine, I admit defeat. I’m letting you go.”
She moved to Miriam’s side. “I’ll help my mom. All of you step aside.”
The housekeepers respectfully retreated, leaving ample space for the mother and daughter.
Miriam coughed harshly before asking, “Chelsea, what are you doing here?”
Upon hearing this, Miriam was overjoyed, and her anger toward Caleb subsided a little. “Work is still the priority. When I’m free, I’ll come by the office to give you some pointers.”
Chelsea returned to the main issue at hand. “Mom, what are you doing here? And you’re injured.” She furrowed her brows, her eyes seemingly glistening with unshed tears.
“I can smell the scent of blood from miles away. Does it hurt?”
Miriam gently patted her head. “I’m fine.” As she spoke, a certain bitterness crept into her voice. “That insufferable brat stabbed me and then ran off. These housekeepers are utterly useless! They’ve been searching for so long and they still haven’t found him! Chelsea, did you see him? He’s wearing a shabby shirt and is very skinny. You will recognize him in an instant.”
Chelsea tilted her head slightly. “A stranger? Let me think…”
She took so long to think that it wasn’t just Miriam who grew anxious, but Caleb also felt restless. Have I been deceived again? Why have I never met a decent person before?
After a considerable amount of thought, Chelsea suddenly lifted a finger, pointing toward the tree where Caleb was hiding.
Miriam squinted as she looked ahead. “What’s the matter? What’s over there?”
As soon as she finished speaking, she was about to push Chelsea aside to inspect what was behind the tree.
At the very moment when Caleb’s heart was pounding the hardest, Chelsea once again stopped Miriam.
“Oh dear, Mom, calm down. What I meant was, there was a male housekeeper asking me questions earlier. I don’t remember his face, but he must be the man you are talking about, right?”
Miriam was taken aback. “Chelsea, the person I mentioned was a skinny brat, how could he possibly be a housekeeper?”
Chelsea pouted. “After harming you, he has no escape. He’ll definitely try to blend in with the housekeepers. How can you be sure the male housekeeper isn’t the same man who hurt you?”
