Chapter 70: Too Harsh
Ultimately, Gianna was a woman and could not match the strength of three or four men. She was filled with determination. “Caleb, wait for me. I will come to find you!”
Philip became even angrier. “Bring her back!”
Gianna was utterly defenseless, forced to watch as Caleb was taken away by George. As for herself, she was in no position to protect herself, let alone escape.
After a series of ordeals, Caleb returned to the Quixall residence. Yelena looked at him with contempt. “After causing such a huge embarrassment to the Quixall family, you still have the nerve to show up?”
Caleb felt too drained to defend himself. Just as he was about to retreat to his room, he was seized by George, who forcefully threw him to the ground. “Tell me, what exactly is your relationship with that b*tch Gianna?”
After being threatened by Philip, George was already frustrated. Moreover, after he saw Gianna and Caleb exchanging glances outside the Sherman residence, his mood worsened even more. He didn’t know why Caleb, an outcast, managed to catch the eye of a woman like her, but he was certain the latter didn’t deserve it.
To him, Caleb was a young ruffian who had served five years in prison and wreaked havoc upon his release, yet surprisingly caught the favor of a benefactor. From then on, the latter rose from obscurity to prominence, soaring to great heights. He didn’t think it was fair to those youths who had yet to have a chance to showcase their talents.
Even though his wife and child were still lying in the hospital bed, their fate hung in the balance; Caleb, from his perspective, was having a good time! He also believed that Caleb caused Jesse to be bedridden.
Thinking about all that, George grew even angrier. He strode forward and delivered several kicks, each one landing heavily on Caleb’s stomach. He showed no regard for their past relationship.
A sharp pain shot through Caleb’s ribs, and he tasted a sweetness in his throat, his mouth filled with the revolting flavor of blood.
Seeing that Caleb was still not intending to speak, George kicked again, his foot landing on Caleb’s head, causing it to jerk to the side.
Startled, Raquel screamed. “Mr. Quixall, isn’t this a bit too harsh? I think you should stop. It won’t end well if he’s killed.”
George clenched his fists, looking at Caleb, who was covered in blood, feeling a pang of heartache. However, he didn’t think he did anything wrong because, from his perspective, his son was useless and learned nothing from five years in prison, causing only trouble after leaving it.
Then, he thought about how Caleb poisoned Jesse again and stole from the Sherman family, nearly causing the latter to… Spare the rod, spoil the child. He used to be reluctant to reprimand this rebellious child, but he understood now. Some people simply wouldn’t learn until they’re taught a harsh lesson. If they go a day without a scolding, they’ll be up to no good! George was panting heavily. “Raquel, please take him back first. Remember, don’t apply medicine to him. He’s the type to forget the pain once the wound has healed. Without these injuries, who knows what kind of trouble he might stir up next? I managed to settle things this time, but I might not be so lucky next time!”
Raquel nodded emphatically. “I understand, Mr. Quixall. I will definitely not administer the medicine to him.”
George waved his hand before turning and heading back into his room. Originally, Yelena intended to follow and check on Caleb’s injuries. However, the thought of Caleb’s previous stubborn and cunning demeanor made her lose the desire to do so. She believed what her father said about Caleb, that he was the type to never learn and would cause trouble as soon as he was healed. Instead of spending all day cleaning up his messes, she believed it would be better to leave him to his own devices and let him lick his own wounds!
The rhythmic click of high heels echoed on the floor as Yelena made her departure. She had plans to go shopping with her friends later, so she simply didn’t have time to deal with ungrateful people.
