Revenge Forged in Prison
Chapter 71: Get Out Of My Sight
Meanwhile, Caleb was sprawled on the bed, his body smeared with blood. Every part of his body was throbbing with a dull ache.
“Cale, it’s all my fault. I never imagined Mr. Quixall would be so ruthless. You were still recovering from your previous injuries, and yet he still…” Raquel wept silently. She was naturally the picture of pity, evoking an irresistible urge in anyone to comfort and protect her. Other people would’ve felt their hearts ache watching her cry, but Caleb didn’t care. He had endured so many beatings due to her, so he obviously wasn’t going to forgive her just because she was shedding crocodile tears. Back then, she had given up on him just to protect herself. Since a similar scenario had played out, he finally realized she had always been that kind of person! He had thoroughly understood the saying that a leopard couldn’t change its spots, and so, at that moment, all he wished was to distance himself from her. The closer he got to her, a two-faced woman, the more danger he was in, so he had to stay far from her.
“I’ll help apply your medicine,” said Raquel, sniffing slightly. “Where’s the first-aid kit?”
Caleb mocked, “Does it look like my room has space for one?”
Raquel swept her gaze around before awkwardly lowering her head. The room was relatively small, so her words from earlier seemed almost as if she was mocking him.
“Then, I’ll go out and get it for you.” She had just risen to her feet when Caleb stopped her.
“No need,” he said.
In a frantic tone, Raquel insisted, “That won’t do! You have so many wounds on your body. If they aren’t disinfected promptly, they will get infected!”
Caleb retorted, “So what if I’m infected? What does that have to do with you?”
“I…” After a long pause, Raquel was unable to utter a single word. Indeed, it had nothing to do with her, given that she had become Jesse’s fiancée, and her past with C had become just that, the past.
From both an emotional and rational perspective, she shouldn’t have been there, but she couldn’t ignore the sight of his wounds.
“If you truly care for me, then go to the Quixall family’s main hall, kneel down, and confess your sins in front of everyone, to clear my name of this injustice. Otherwise, you’re just pretending!” Every word Caleb spoke was logical, and Raquel was well aware of the irreversible mistake she had made. If she truly wanted to help Caleb, she knew she had to confess in front of the entire Quixall family, but she…
Even though she was the daughter of the Levinson family, she had resorted to stealing a few pieces of jewelry from her former best friend, all in an attempt to vent her anger. She couldn’t possibly bring herself to say that, so she covered her face and uttered, “I’m sorry, I’m truly sorry… but I just can’t do it…”
“If you can’t do it, then get out of my sight and stop seeking validation from me!” Caleb didn’t know where he had summoned the strength, but he abruptly sprang up from the bed, guiding Raquel toward the exit.
Raquel couldn’t resist Caleb’s strength. She had been trying to look back at him, but due to her limited angle, she was unable to do so successfully. “Cale, please, don’t be like this. I didn’t do it on purpose. Please forgive me…”
Caleb remained silent, not uttering a single word, until he had ushered Raquel out the door. Only then did he turn around and return to his room.
Even though it was clear that Raquel was the one who started everything, she dared to feign innocence, trying to manipulate his emotions. He had spent five years in prison, enduring countless injuries along the way. Back then, no one paid him any mind, let alone offered him medical treatment. Raquel had never once visited him during those five years, yet she was putting on an act after he left prison. He would never again treat her as he did before!
