Revenge Forged in Prison

Chapter 72: Time For Reflection

In the evening, an unexpected visitor arrived at the Quixall residence. The Sherman family's butler, Norman, came alone, explicitly requesting to see Caleb.

At that time, Caleb was lying in bed nursing his injuries. Getting up was a problem; even moving his fingers caused his entire body to ache. Naturally, Norman's request was turned down.

George smirked. “Mr. Langford, perhaps you should drop it. This morning, I took Caleb to the Sherman residence to apologize. To express his remorse, he repeatedly smashed his head on the ground until it was bruised. Forcing him to meet a guest now might intensify his pain, don’t you think?”

Norman said plainly, “If Mr. Jenkins finds it inconvenient to receive guests, then I’ll go to him. There’s no need to trouble him to come here. However, this is, after all, the Quixall residence. I didn’t want to intrude without permission, so I thought it best to discuss it with you first, to avoid any unnecessary trouble.”

George found it hard to refuse, so he said, “If that’s the case, Yelena, you should go with Mr. Langford. Caleb is in a bad mood. I’m worried he might do something rash and cause unpleasantness between our two families.”

Yelena nodded. “All right, I’ll lead Mr. Langford there.”

She said in a nonchalant tone, “Let’s go, Mr. Langford. Cale’s room is just ahead, only a few steps away.”

Norman seemed oblivious to the impatience in her words. He maintained a humble and polite demeanor, following her at a leisurely pace.

Upon arriving, Yelena didn’t knock. Instead, she forcefully pushed the door open and announced coldly, “Caleb, you have an esteemed guest looking for you.”

The bleeding had already stopped for Caleb, but the bloodstains remained on his clothes, becoming increasingly glaring as time passed.

He struggled to his feet, and when he saw that the visitor was Norman, his face lit up considerably. “Ah, Mr. Langford. My apologies for not being able to greet you in person due to my severe injuries.”

Upon seeing the extent of Caleb’s injuries, Norman promptly approached him. “Mr. Jenkins, please lie down immediately. Don’t push yourself too hard.”

He hesitated before saying, “Your forehead injury is so severe. Why haven’t you bandaged it?”

There was a moment of silence from Caleb, then he finally said, “I didn’t want to bandage it. The actions I committed were truly unforgivable. To prevent myself from repeating such foolish mistakes, I kept the wounds as a reminder.”

Yelena sneered. “You really should take some time to reflect. If something like this happens again, the Quixall family won’t be able to tolerate you anymore.”

Caleb remained silent.

Norman was clearly baffled. He glanced at Yelena, then at Caleb, utterly at a loss. There were rumors circulating among outsiders that the pair of siblings were as close as one could be. However, judging from what he observed, he determined it was nothing but hearsay. After all, if these two really had such a strong bond, Yelena wouldn’t have publicly ridiculed her brother for a mere slip-up. Even if she were upset with him because of the matter, she wouldn’t disrespect him, because if outsiders perceived Caleb’s status within the Quixall family as so low that he was considered less than a servant, they might disrespect him in the future.

Seeing Norman standing there in a daze, Yelena urged, “Mr. Langford, you specifically came looking for my brother. Is there something you wanted to tell him? Time is precious to the Quixall family. Don’t waste it. Hurry up and speak.”

Her attitude was far from polite, yet Norman didn’t get angry. “I specifically came to tell Mr. Jenkins that the Sherman family didn’t blame him for this incident. On the contrary, Mr. Jenkins, if you ever find yourself in a difficult situation in the future, feel free to seek help from the Sherman family. We will spare no effort to assist you, regardless of the cost.”
