Chapter 76: This Is Absolutely Ridiculous
Caleb had been lying in bed for hours, unable to fall asleep. He shut his eyes and began counting sheep, only falling asleep when he finally reached three thousand one hundred and eleven. However, just as he turned over in his sleep, he felt an uncomfortable poke beneath the sheets, as though something was hidden there.
Curious, he pulled back the bedding to investigate. Underneath the sheets, he discovered a box of ointment resting on the cushion. Picking it up, he examined it carefully, trying to piece together how it had ended up there. Many people had come by his room that day, so he couldn’t pinpoint who might have left it.
After a moment, a sudden thought struck him. Was it Mr. Langford? He seemed a little awkward when he came over to help me… Caleb’s head throbbed from the effort of overthinking, and he finally decided to stop dwelling on it.
Just then, the door opened. Raquel stood at the entrance, holding a plate of pasta, her voice soft and gentle. “Cale, it’s time to eat.” She placed the plate on the small table, complaining, “Your place is just too cramped. You really need to consider upgrading—” Her words faltered as her eyes landed on something unexpected. “What’s that?” she asked, noticing Caleb’s attempt to hide the ointment.
Without hesitation, she snatched the tube from him. “Let me see!” Caleb’s act of concealing the ointment was purely instinctive; he had never placed any real importance on it. Yet, as Raquel grabbed it from him, a faint anger unexpectedly rose within him. “Give it back!” He reached out to take it, but his hand closed on nothing but air.
Raquel moved gracefully, spinning away while holding the ointment tightly in her grasp. “I want to know which b*tch gave you this ointment!” She spent a considerable amount of time scrutinizing the box of ointment but failed to identify which family owned the company that had produced it. Many prominent families had heavily invested in pharmaceutical research, with some even maintaining specialized development teams. However, the name on this box of ointment didn’t match any of those families.
Chapter 76: This Is Absolutely Ridiculous (Continued)
After much deliberation, Raquel came to a conclusion. “It must be Seiren who brought you this!” The unfamiliarity of the company name puzzled Raquel, especially given her status as the daughter of the Levinson family. It was inconceivable for her not to recognize such a business, leading her to conclude that the ointment must have come from some small, obscure company. To her, it seemed only someone like Seiren, with her lower social standing, would spend money on such items. Raquel dismissed the ointment as a reflection of Seiren’s status—cheap and inferior.
Caleb was briefly stunned by Raquel’s words. Who is Seiren? Oh, she’s the maid who came to my room just now. But she already took the ointment back, so why is Raquel so adamant about her being the one who brought it? She was nothing but polite—didn’t even have the chance to do anything out of line.
Caleb concluded that Raquel was acting irrationally again, which only added to his annoyance. “She wasn’t the one who brought it. Give it back to me.” Raquel, her jaw tight with determination, clenched the box in her hands and crushed it with force. “Are you giving me orders now?”
Caleb was beyond irritated. “Stop causing a scene. I haven’t even settled the score with you for what happened before. Don’t bring me any more bad luck.” Raquel’s fury flared. “Really now, you’re going to hold me accountable? This is absolutely ridiculous!” She hurled the medicine box at Caleb’s head. Yet, even that didn’t seem to satisfy her frustration.
Her eyes landed on the plate of pasta nearby, and without hesitation, she grabbed it and flung it at Caleb’s head. Caleb tried to dodge, but his injuries slowed him, and the plate struck his temple. The porcelain shattered on impact, cutting into his skin and causing bright red blood to stream down. Tears streaked Raquel’s face as she stammered, “Cale, didn’t mean to. I just…”
Caleb wiped the blood from his temple and roared, “Get out! I don’t want to see you again!”
