Chapter 89: Giving You a Hard Time

“You, you…” George raised his hand, ready to swing it down.

However, Deborah promptly responded, “If he wants to eat, I’ll cook for him. After all, it’s been five years since we’ve had new dishes. It’s no big deal for me to learn.”

George said in frustration, “You’re spoiling him. It’s clear he’s making things difficult for you!”

Deborah didn’t believe it. “You’re overthinking it. Caleb would never have such ulterior motives.”

George didn’t want to see Caleb’s face again, so he briskly walked away.

Meanwhile, Deborah warmly engaged Caleb in conversation.

“Does the wound on your head still hurt? I was so busy scolding you yesterday that I hardly said anything nice. You really had it tough.”

Caleb removed her hand. “It doesn’t hurt. I’ve already applied antiseptic myself.”

Deborah smiled. “Did you use the medicine Seiren gave you?”

After a moment of hesitation, Caleb gave a nod. “Yes.”

Deborah patted his hand. “That’s good then.”

After exchanging a few more words, Deborah prepared to leave.

“I’m going to see a few renowned chefs and learn from them how to prepare a thirteen-course meal.”

Caleb watched her leave. “Take it easy, Mom. Be careful when you’re cooking. Don’t cut yourself.”

“Ah, I won’t!”

Deborah’s silhouette gradually receded, and in no time at all, she had disappeared from sight.

Caleb beckoned to Agnes. “Go and buy some fruit. I’m going to visit Jesse in the hospital.”

Agnes was taken aback, filled with disbelief.

“Mr. Caleb, what kind of fruit would you like me to purchase?”

After mulling it over for a while, Caleb said, “Let’s get some apples and blueberries. I recall those being his favorites.”

Agnes made a mental note, then changed the topic. “Mr. Caleb, your bank card has been frozen by Mr. Quixall. If you want to buy fruit, I’ll have to report it to him. What do you…”

Caleb didn’t mind at all. “Then go ahead and report to him. But remember, make sure you buy everything before two in the afternoon. If you’re late, I’ll be upset.”

He let out a nonchalant laugh, yet the aura he exuded reminded Agnes not to take it lightly.

Her lips quivered as she quickly said, “I’ll leave right away. I won’t take up any more of your time.”

Once she was at a distance, Agnes began to grumble, “You don’t even have money. What makes you think you can boss me around?”

However, she was afraid she might mess things up, so she quickly sought out George to inform him.

“Mr. Quixall, Mr. Caleb asked me to go to the market to buy some fruit. He said it’s for his visit to Mr. Jesse. Do you approve?”

George paused for a moment, then said impatiently, “Do you really need to bother me with such trivial matters? Can’t you make a decision on your own?”

Agnes felt extremely awkward. “You mentioned before not to pay any heed to Mr. Caleb’s requests. But when he ordered me to do it, I didn’t dare disobey, so I came to consult you.”

George replied dismissively, “Don’t bother me if it’s not important. In the future, there’s no need to come and tell me about such matters.”

“Understood.”

Agnes bowed and retreated out of the room. Even as she stepped outside, she didn’t forget to close the door behind her.

She was filled with confusion. “Seriously, has this entire family gone mad?”

As much as she yearned to, she still didn’t dare to defy George.

In less than an hour, she was back, carrying a basket full of fruit.

In a rare occurrence, Caleb was seated on the living room couch, savoring his rose tea elegantly.

Seeing Agnes return, he asked, “Who made this tea?”

Agnes respectfully replied, “It was Seiren, Mr. Caleb.”

Seiren often brewed tea for Deborah, and in doing so, she had honed her skills.

Caleb sincerely praised, “This is really well done. Agnes, it would be great if you are just as skilled as her.”
