Listen to this chapter:

Ivan cautiously took the list. His hands trembled as he read the names, the paper rustling loudly. He glanced up at Matthew, but no words escaped his lips.

Pointing the gun at Ivan's forehead, Matthew asked, "Are you going to talk?"

Ivan knelt, "I'll talk. I'll tell you everything," he said urgently. He revealed he knew four or five people on the list—all prominent traditional medicine practitioners. Vincent had previously tasked him with buying their prescriptions and medical literature.

Ivan recounted, "I took my men to see them several times. We tried to persuade and threaten them, but they refused to sell. Finally, Vincent told us to let it go. But a couple of days later, they were all found dead."

"All dead?" Matthew was shocked, scanning the dozen names. He pulled out his phone and typed in the first name, Lucy Owen. He quickly found articles reporting her death in a car accident. The second had drowned; the third had fallen down the stairs; the fourth, Walter, was said to have jumped from a building.

As Matthew read on, his shock deepened. Their deaths were all under strange circumstances. He finally understood the cherub statue atop the paper: Vincent had killed these people, and sought solace in the statue.

Thinking of Walter's death, Matthew pressed the gun firmly against Ivan's forehead. "Why did Walter jump off the building?"

Ivan shook his head. "I've never met Walter. I haven't seen his son either," he claimed. He explained he'd only received the Reed family's debt statement from Vincent. "I went to collect the debt and force Jenny to hand over the Medieval Medicine."

Matthew asked coldly, "What Medieval Medicine?"

Ivan shook his head. "I'm not sure, but it seems to involve Walter's grandfather saving someone. In return, he received Medieval Medicine, which Vincent is determined to find," he recalled.

Matthew pondered the recent events. Firstly, traditional medicine manufactured by the Wealthwave Group faced unjust accusations. Newspapers and the internet were awash with propaganda against it. Traditional medicine was becoming scarce, on the verge of obsolescence. Yet, people were resorting to murder and kidnapping to obtain medical literature, employing every means necessary. It was a profound contradiction.

Contemplating this, Matthew headed to the elevator, Ivan trembling behind him. Reaching the ground floor, Matthew remembered Vincent had been killed upstairs. Frowning, he watched the video he'd taken earlier, clearly showing Vincent committing suicide.

Just then, Ivan shouted, "Fire! There's a fire upstairs. It probably started on the 18th floor!"

Matthew looked up; the upper floors were ablaze, flames and smoke billowing out. Ivan patted his chest. "Great, there won't be any evidence left. Without surveillance cameras in this hotel, they shouldn't be able to trace me."

After glancing around the lobby, Matthew realized there wasn't a single surveillance camera. He understood why Vincent had chosen this place. The arsonists on the 18th floor were likely members of the Red Wolves. With that thought in mind, he became more vigilant.

Preparing to return to Jenny's house, Matthew remembered something. He warned Ivan, "If anything happens to Jenny's brother, you'll soon meet misfortune." With that, he turned and left, disregarding Ivan's thoughts.

Ivan frowned. "Vincent is dead. I definitely won't stir up trouble again. If he gets into trouble with someone else, it will have nothing to do with me." He sighed, watching Matthew walk away. He knew he wouldn't be able to wash his hands of this matter.

Matthew eventually returned to Birchwood Community and knocked on Jenny's door.
