Soon after, Rachel realized what was happening and snapped, “What nonsense are you spewing?”
Matthew, driving, casually said, “Am I wrong? You promised to take care of me at the Opulent Club, but now you’re discarding me. I even considered providing you treatment tonight, but this is my reward?”
Rachel clenched her teeth, her anger simmering. How dare Matthew mention her illness? He seemed less like a man who’d gone to jail for his wife and more like a pervert.
“Are you giving me the formula or not?”
Matthew pondered, then replied, “You can have it, but not for free. You can pay or offer yourself.”
He added, “On second thought, you’re not worth it. I promised you the formula, but now I must also serve you? I’m not a doormat. You’ll have to pay.”
Rachel clenched her teeth. Matthew was blunt and calculating. He was irresponsible, more like a stingy pervert than anything else.
She reined in her anger; the formula was crucial. “Name your price,” she said.
Matthew nonchalantly replied, “Ten million dollars. No extra charges.”
Rachel, though angry, deemed the price fair. “Alright, I’ll wire you the amount now.”
A screech; the car stopped abruptly. Matthew produced his phone, displaying an account number. “Send it to this account.”
He’d braked too hard. Rachel, caught off guard, felt the seatbelt constrict her chest. It hurt, and she glared at him angrily. He was impatient, stopping the car in the middle of the road.
Livid, Rachel transferred the money.
After the payment, Matthew sighed. “You’re supposed to provide for me, but I still have to make a living. I can’t count on you.”
He restarted the engine. Rachel was furious. He’d taken the money yet still dared to speak like that.
She rolled down the window, gazing outside, her expression hardening.
Traffic was heavy; a black sports car drove alongside. Rachel stared out, dazed. Matthew’s earlier tone—like a complaining wife—inadvertently brought a smile to her face.
The young man in the sports car noticed her pretty face as the window rolled down. He gazed at Rachel, entranced, especially when she smiled. Unable to look away, he collided with the car in front. Only then did he quickly avert his gaze.
The driver in front got out and yelled. The young man also exited his car, ignoring the driver’s scolding, and watched Rachel’s car drive away. He couldn’t take his eyes off the disappearing vehicle for a long time.
At the kindergarten entrance, Tessa anxiously looked around. Her eyes lit up when a car appeared; Matthew was here to pick up Lorraine.
Tessa checked her reflection, applying lipstick and touching up her makeup. Seeing her glowing face and vibrant red lips, she felt more confident. She put away her mirror and lipstick, then focused on her strapless dress, pulling it down slightly to accentuate her cleavage. She smiled seductively and walked toward the approaching car.
Once the car stopped, she tapped the window with her red-nailed fingers. As the window lowered, she leaned forward, pressing her chest against the glass.
