Maeve couldn't clearly identify the person who had saved her. Alex shook his head regretfully. "I wasn't there. I heard about it from someone else. Apparently, a couple saved you." He mused that if he had been there, he would have risked everything to save her without hesitation.

"Did they come to the hospital?" Maeve asked. "I want to thank them in person."

"I asked the doctor. They seemed fine and were discharged yesterday," Alex replied.

Disappointment flickered in Maeve's eyes. "I didn't even get to thank them... Oh, if we check the restaurant's surveillance cameras, could they find them?"

"I already checked. The restaurant said the footage was damaged and unusable," Alex said, feeling regretful. He comforted her, "They probably didn't expect thanks. Don't burden yourself."

Maeve nodded, but felt she'd overlooked something.

Meanwhile, in the VIP ward, the atmosphere was tense. Byron, pale and ashen, leaned against the hospital bed, awaiting a dressing change on his injured leg.

"Mr. Jason McDaniel, Mr. Byron McDaniel, it's fortunate the object didn't damage any nerves. A slight shift, and Mr. Byron McDaniel's leg would have been crippled," the doctor explained earnestly. "However, his leg was compressed for too long, so his mobility will be temporarily affected."

Jason's face darkened. "Since when did our family have a romantic fool? You're divorced from her; her life or death is none of your concern. Yet you shielded her? How can her worthless life compare to yours?!"

Byron glared at Jason. "Our deal is over. I don't want to hear that again."

"Deal?" Jason sneered. "If I had my way, she wouldn't get off so easily. Grandpa's still unconscious, and you're injuredโ€”all because of her!" Gilbert's significance to the McDaniel family meant their hatred for Maeve, whom they considered the culprit, was intense. Without Byron's intervention, Jason would have ensured she remained imprisoned for life.

Byron's expression turned cold. "Are you still planning to attack her?"

"Don't worry. Since you're divorced, I won't pursue legal action," Jason said, his voice deep. "You may not understand now, Byron, but eventually you will."

"Is that so?" Byron's tone was icy. "Then let me offer some advice: stop with the wishful thinking." Jason, furious, stormed out.

Lynn rushed in, crying, throwing herself into Byron's arms. "Byron, you scared me! You were covered in blood! If anything happened..."

Her distress was evident. Byron gently pushed her away. "I'm alright now. Don't cry."

Lynn's shoulders trembled. "Byron, tell me the truth. What's your relationship with her? Why did you save her?"

Byron paused. "What did Mother tell you?"

Lynn nodded hesitantly. "Alexis said you... married her."

"Yes," Byron confirmed.

Lynn bit her lip. "Is that why you saved her?"

Byron nodded. "Sort of."

Lynn sighed with relief. "Byron, we're getting engaged. From now on, you can only look at me. Otherwise, I'll be sad."

Byron concealed his inner turmoil. "You can leave for a while. Let Archer in; I need to speak with him."

Lynn obediently left. Archer entered. "Mr. McDaniel?"

"How's Maeve?" Byron asked.

Archer was prepared. "Ms. Reese tested negative for sleeping pills and woke up this morning. She's fine and can be discharged tomorrow." He hesitated. Byron narrowed his eyes. "What else?"

"The doctor also said... Ms. Reese is nearly two months pregnant."

Byron's eyes narrowed dangerously. The news hit him like a hurricane. Archer shivered under his icy gaze.

"Pregnant?" Byron repeated slowly, his voice terrifying.

"Yes."

"Does she know?"

"I think so. I discovered she went to a clinic for an abortion on the day she left detention, but didn't go through with it..." Archer trailed off, noticing Byron's darkening expression.

Byron sneered. "Maeve, you're truly great! You kept the pregnancy secret before the divorce, then tried to abort my child after? You kept me in the dark!"

Byron's face darkened. "Where is she now?"

"In the ward downstairs," Archer replied.

That night, Alex worried about Maeve alone. He wanted Bonnie to stay, but Maeve refused. After showering, she took pregnancy medication and prepared for bed. Between sleep and wakefulness, a chill enveloped her, a cold hand gripping her neck, tightening. She opened her eyes to see Byron's cold face. "B-Byron?" She tried to sit up, but he tightened his grip, cutting off her air. Her face flushed, unable to speak.
