"Why?" Maeve opened the bag to tempt him. "It's still hot; it smells so good!" Will remained unaffected and silent, regardless of what she said.
Maeve wondered, "Could a four-year-old boy also have a period? Or is his sensitivity due to illness?" Seeing his unwillingness to speak, Maeve didn't force him. She put down the McDonald's and began her chores.
She cleaned the living room, then went to the balcony to install more flower racks and porcelain pots, intending to plant her newly purchased seeds. However, looking up, she saw Will pacing in the living room, leaving a trail of small footprints. She realized this explained the recent quiet. He was clearly up to mischief.
"Baby, slow down," Maeve reminded him as she planted the seeds. "The floor is a bit slippery; don't trip and fall."
Will hesitated, unsure whether to continue. He was a little frustrated. Why doesn't she get angry?
He moved closer to Maeve, watching her plant vegetables. Maeve, sensing his ill intentions, handed him some radish seedlings. "Do you want to try?"
Will took them curiously, his bright eyes sparkling. However, seeing Maeve's gentle smile, he immediately changed his expression, and the radish sprouts were destroyed.
As Maeve wanted to protect the remaining seedlings, she rushed him to wash his hands. "Go wash your hands. I'll do this myself."
Will entered the washroom and, seeing the running tap, had an idea.
After planting all the seedlings and seeds, Maeve noticed Will hadn't emerged from the bathroom. Removing her gloves, she went to find him. What did she find? Her son, standing on a small stool by the sink, his small hands pressed against the tap, splashing water everywhere. His clothes were drenched.
"Theodore!"
Will turned at Maeve's sharp tone. Is she finally angry?
Maeve picked him up, and under his scrutinizing gaze, smacked his bottom. Will was stunned. Even his father had never done so. The servants and grandparents treated him with utmost respect and affection.
"If you want to play with water, you can, but how could you wet your clothes?" Maeve was angry. "What if you catch a cold? I'd feel terrible if you got sick!" Will was stunned. Seeing Maeve's anxious, angry, and helpless expression, he welled up with tears.
