Chapter 378 A Fatal Mistake
Quinn dialed Sierraโs number, but it just kept ringing with no answer. With a pleasant smile, she said, โMs. Sierra might be busy and canโt answer your call. Weโll try again another day!โ
She already knew this call would never go through.
By her estimate, the hit shouldโve already gone down. Sierra should be deadโkilled in a car accident. Any moment now, pictures would start appearing online.
Just imagining Sierraโs gruesome end put Quinn in a great mood. She even took half a day off from work under the pretense of spending time with Dora, but in truth, she stayed home to watch for the death photos on her computer.
But as the hours passed, nothing showed up. No photos. No news.
Quinnโs expression darkened. Did it fail? How could that be?
She knew just how ruthless those people were. If the money was right, theyโd do anythingโnot just kill someone, but worse. Sheโd seen someone request a live broadcast of a flaying, and those people had delivered.
A simple staged car accident shouldโve been nothing.
But by nightfall, there was still nothing.
Her expression was now completely grim.
And then, suddenly, the doorbell rang. A chill ran down her spine.
She opened the doorโonly to find it already unlocked by two bodyguards Jonathan had arranged. And there he stood.
Quinnโs heart skipped a beat, but her face remained calm, even lighting up with surprise.
โJohnathan! Youโre back so soon? Was everything smooth?โ
Jonathan didnโt answer. He walked straight in and sat down, motioning for the two men to take Dora away first. Only then did he turn to Quinn.
โThanks to you, everything went pretty smoothly.โ
The moment she saw him have Dora taken away, Quinn knewโit was over. She was exposed.
She didnโt bother pretending anymore. Instead, she gave a small smile and sat down across from him.
โWhen did you find out?โ she asked.
Jonathan looked at her steadily. โSince the last time Sierra got hurt, I knew something was wrong.โ
Back then, he didnโt have proofโbut heโd been on alert ever since.
โThat early?โ Quinn seemed genuinely surprised. โI thought I hadnโt left any traces.โ
Sheโd gone to great lengths to distance herself from that incident. She never imagined Jonathan would still suspect her.
โYou are smart,โ Jonathan said calmly. โI never found any solid proof. Every time, I thought I was just overthinking it.โ
Then he added, โBut you shouldnโt have used those drugs on Sierra.โ
If she hadnโt done that, he wouldnโt have looked into the source of the drugsโand he wouldnโt have discovered that so many of the substances now circulating on the black market had originated from his early research.
He had been abroad at the time.
And Quinnโฆ had far too many.
Hearing his words, Quinn let out a soft laugh. โI shouldnโt have done that.โ
She continued. โI just wanted to split you two up. I thought if you saw her get violated, youโd finally let go. After all, youโve always been obsessive about cleanliness.โ
Jonathan was extremely territorialโlike an animalโhe hated having others step into what he considered his.
How could a man like that stand to see his woman humiliated by someone else?
Even if they stayed together afterward, the scar would still be there.
Even if Jonathan didnโt mind Sierra being assaulted, knowing his personality, heโd be plagued by guilt for not protecting her -and that guilt would change their relationship forever.
You had to admit, Quinn knew him well.
If Sierra had really been harmed, things might have turned out very differently.
The plan had been perfect. But who couldโve guessed Sierra, despite being drugged, could still tell whether or not the man was Jonathan? That slip had ruined everything.
After that, Quinn realized breaking them up wouldnโt be enough. Thatโs when she decided Sierra had to die.
โYou two really put on a good show. I had no idea. I thought Iโd hidden everything so well.โ
She gave a little sigh. โBut just based on suspicions, you set a trap to lure me out?โ
โOf course not,โ Jonathan shot her a look. โYou are a good actress. But do you know where you made your biggest mistake?โ
Quinn tilted her head slightly, feigning curiosity.
Jonathan let out a mocking laugh. โYou thought a threeโyearโold wouldnโt give anything away. And you did keep Dora under tight control. But you forgot the most important thingโchildren are usually closest to their mothers. Unlessโฆ their mother isnโt human.โ
