Chapter 394 The Lie Unravels

Back then, Sierra could feel that Jose genuinely respected Johnathan. Could he really have done something to harm him?

Just as she was thinking that, Johnathanโ€™s phone rang. Whatever the caller said made his face change instantly.

โ€œWhat is it?โ€ Sierra asked quickly.

โ€œDoraโ€™s been taken.โ€ Johnathan spoke calmly.

โ€œWhat?โ€ Sierra was stunned. Before she could ask more, Johnathan added, โ€œJoseโ€™s been injured.โ€

โ€œHuh?โ€

Sierra didnโ€™t immediately make the connection. What did Jose getting hurt have to do with Dora being taken?

โ€œToday, Jose ran into Dora. He took her out to buy cake, and someone attacked him and took her.โ€ Johnathan said it without much expression, but there was clear sarcasm in his eyes.

Even Sierra thought the whole thing seemed far too coincidental.

Because Quinn had escaped, Dora had been under constant protection. She only ever went between school and home and rarely went out otherwise. And now, she just so happened to run into Joseโ€”and then got kidnapped? The entire situation felt suspicious.

While Sierra was still thinking it over, she saw Johnathan lift his blanket and sit up, clearly intending to get out of bed despite his pain.

โ€œWhat are you doing?โ€ Sierra looked at him disapprovingly. Did he not understand how serious his injuries were? It had only been a few days, and he already wanted to push himself?

Under her gaze, Johnathan quickly said, โ€œRelax, I know my limits. Iโ€™m not trying to act tough. Iโ€ฆ just need a wheelchair.โ€

He wasnโ€™t about to push his luck. With several broken ribs and internal injuries, it was impossible for him to get up and walk.

Sierra looked at him and frowned. โ€œYou really have to go?โ€

In the end, Sierra got him a wheelchair. Fortunately, Jose was in the same hospitalโ€”just in a different wing.

At that moment, in Joseโ€™s hospital room, only Susie and Jose were present.

Susie had been staring at him the whole time. Jose felt uneasy and instinctively avoided her gaze.

โ€œMom, the doctor said Iโ€™m fine. You donโ€™t need to worry.โ€

Susieโ€™s eyes flashed with cold irony. โ€œEven now, youโ€™re still saying things like that?โ€

โ€œJose! Tell me the truth. What exactly is going on between you and Quinn?โ€ Susie asked angrily. Though she hadnโ€™t visited Johnathan due to certain reasons, that didnโ€™t mean she was unaware that Quinn might have been involved in his injuries.

And now Quinnโ€™s daughter had been takenโ€”and her own son was involved.

Susie wasnโ€™t a fool. She only had to think for a moment to figure it out.

And then she remembered the look on her sonโ€™s face that day. Her heart ached. โ€œThe car crash was your doing too, wasnโ€™t it?โ€

โ€œI already said it had nothing to do with me.โ€ Jose replied irritably, โ€œMom, I really donโ€™t understand why youโ€™d rather believe an outsider than your own son. Iโ€™ve told you over and overโ€”it had nothing to do with me. Nothing.โ€

Jose knew this situation could easily expose him, but he had no other option.

He was confident they wouldnโ€™t find evidence. After all, he hadnโ€™t spent all these years in the Wynn family for nothingโ€”he had his own power and resources.

So what if it all looked suspicious? If there was no evidence, then it was just a coincidence.

But what he had underestimated was his own mother. Her relentless pressure was giving him a headache.

โ€œFine. No connection.โ€ Susieโ€™s tone was icy. โ€œIf you say thereโ€™s no connection, then tell meโ€”why were you there today?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m leaving tonight. I wonโ€™t be coming back for a while. I wanted to have some cake from that shop before I left. Whatโ€™s wrong with that?โ€ Jose responded smoothly.

He had come up with this excuse long ago, so he wasnโ€™t worried at all.

โ€œAnd what about the child?โ€

Before Jose could answer, Susie continued, โ€œI gave birth to you. I know your personality better than anyone. So donโ€™t try to sell me some story about feeling sorry for her. Jose, youโ€™d never take a child to a cake shop. Not unless you planned it ahead of time.โ€

Joseโ€™s face darkened. He was just about to say something when the hospital room door suddenly opened.

Both mother and son froze, instinctively turning to look.
