Chapter 395 Never That Important
When they saw the man in the wheelchair, both mother and sonโs expressions changed. Susie instinctively stepped closer to the bed, shielding Jose behind her protectively.
She forced a smile and greeted him, โJohnathan, what brings you here?โ
Johnathanโs gaze lingered on Susieโs face for quite a while. In all these years, it was the first time he had looked at Chaseโs wife this seriously.
He had overheard everything the mother and son had just said. Even though there were bodyguards outside, they all knew who he was, and no one had dared to stop him.
He had always thought Susie was a two-faced woman, full of fake sweetness and hidden bladesโbut after hearing their exchange just now, that didnโt seem to be the case.
Susie grew anxious under his silent stare. Her voice began to tremble.
โJohnathanโฆโ
There was a hint of pleading in her eyes, but her frail body still stood firmly between him and Jose.
After a long moment, Johnathan finally spoke in a calm voice. โI have questions for him.โ
โโฆOkay.โ
Susie stepped aside. Johnathan turned to Jose.
Jose was indeed โinjuredโโhe looked badly hurt, but Johnathan could tell at a glance they were only surface wounds.
Jose hadnโt expected Johnathan to come. His heart pounded nervously, especially seeing his mother trying to shield him. He was filled with conflicting emotions.
โBesides helping Quinn escape and delivering Dora to her, what else have you done? Who were you in contact with?โ
Johnathan stared coldly at him.
Panic surged in Joseโs heart. He quickly said, โI donโt know what youโre talking about.โ
โJose, I have very little patience. Next time, I wonโt ask this nicely.โ
Johnathanโs voice was icy.
Susie quickly urged him, โJose, just tell the truth!โ
Jose gritted his teeth and pressed on, โI really donโt know what youโre talking about.โ
โI know youโve never liked me. Youโve been scheming to get rid of me from the start. But Johnathan, if I didnโt do it, then I didnโt do it. Donโt try to pin this on me.โ
At that, Johnathan let out a cold laugh. Susie, meanwhile, gave a weary sigh.
โScheming to get rid of me? Who do you think you are?โ Johnathan said with biting sarcasm. โIf you hadnโt kept jumping in front of me, I wouldnโt even remember your name. Jose, donโt overestimate your importance!โ
There was nothing Jose couldโve heard that would enrage him more.
He had spent years treating Johnathan as his rival, his goalโyet the other party had never even bothered to acknowledge his existence. It was beyond humiliating.
But the most humiliating part was what Johnathan said next.
โIf I wanted you gone, Iโve had countless chances. When you were ten, you were kidnapped. You walked away safelyโnot because you were smart, not because the kidnappers were idiotsโbut because I took them all out. When you were fifteen, there was a lab explosion due to your own mistake. You hid it from the family and handled it on your own. You managed to cover it upโnot because you were so capable, but because I cleaned up the mess for you. If I so much as lifted a finger, you wouldnโt be standing here talking to me right now. Understand?โ
Johnathanโs words didnโt just shock Susie and JoseโSierra was stunned as well.
She had always thought Johnathan wished Jose dead. She never imagined he had done so much for him behind the scenes.
Back then, when he was helping the younger brother he despised the most, how bitter must he have felt inside?
Johnathan always said he was cold and heartless, that he wasnโt a good person. But even during his most rebellious years, he never kicked Jose while he was down. He just quietly saved his lifeโagain and again.
Knowing Johnathan, he wouldnโt have said any of this under normal circumstances. The only reason he did nowโฆ was because he had finally let it go.
Let go of his hatred for Susie and Jose.
Let go of the resentment he held toward Chase.
Jose was the most shaken of them all. His lips trembled, unable to believe what heโd just heard.
โYouโฆ all of thatโฆ itโs true?โ he stammered. โNoโฆ no way! Thatโs impossible! You never even looked at meโyou wouldnโt even spare me a glanceโฆโ
Joseโs words came out disjointed, completely thrown into chaos.
