Chapter 396 The Final Confession
Johnathan looked calmly at Jose, whose face had drastically changed. โWhether itโs true or not, you know better than anyone.โ
โJose, deep down, you know better than anyone whether youโve always respected meโor just envied me.โ
Jose suddenly shouted.
โYes, I envied you! Fine, I did work with Quinn. I even helped her come back to the country in the first place! Do you know why? Itโs all because of you! Why didnโt you tell me what you were doing? Why didnโt you let me know? Ever since I can remember, Mom and Dad kept telling me to respect you, that youโre my brother, that I should look up to you for the rest of my life. And in the beginning, I really did. I thought having a brother like you was amazing. But how did you treat me? You never once looked me in the eye. And why didnโt you tell me any of this?โ
The moment he finished speaking, a loud smack rang outโSusie had slapped him hard across the face.
โShut up! Just shut up!โ
Susie looked at her son in disappointment. She had suspected some things, but she never imagined heโd started harboring such thoughts so early. Even Quinnโs return had been tied to him.
And now, he was putting all the blame on Johnathan.
Susie took several deep breaths before finally turning to Johnathan. โJohnathan, Iโll make this right for you.โ
Just thinking about how Johnathan had nearly died in the operating room filled her with guilt.
โWhatever needs to be done, weโll do it. Iโll inform your father and the old man.โ
โMom?โ
Jose stared at his mother in disbelief. For the sake of Johnathan, she was really willing to abandon him?
Susie looked at him with deep sorrow, but her voice remained firm. โJose, this is my failure as a mother. If youโve done wrong, you have to face the consequences. I should never have only told you to respect your brotherโthat wasnโt enough.โ
She was full of regret, but it was too late for that now. The only thing she could do was try to make amends.
Just as she was about to call Chase, Johnathan spoke:
โIโll handle this myself. He wronged meโso itโs up to me to decide what happens.โ
Then he turned to Jose. โIโll ask one last time: how did you get in touch with Quinn? Tell me everything, from beginning to end.โ
Jose didnโt want to talk. But when he saw his disappointed mother and Johnathanโs cold expression, he realized this was his last chance.
After a long silence, he finally began. โAt first, I didnโt know what she was really after. I just happened to overhear her talking to Grandpa one time, and he seemed really wary of herโthatโs when I started suspecting something. She went abroad after that, but we stayed in touch. I usually just asked about you. We didnโt interact much, until recentlyโฆ I wanted to go against you, so I thought of her. I hinted to her that someone really important was by your side now, and then she came back. I didnโt know what she was planning. I didnโt know until she got arrested. I thought that was the end of it, but then I went to a bar, and someone approached me asking for help to get Quinn out. Around the same time, I overheard Mom and Dad talking about wanting to send me away. I was upsetโso I agreed to work with them.โ
He paused, then continued. โI didnโt know they were going to attack you. All I did was help get Quinn out. I only found out afterward that they sent someone to kill you. Thatโs when Quinn started threatening meโsaid I had to give her daughter back.โ
At this point, Jose had nothing left to hide. He confessed everything he knew.
โIโve told you everything Iโve done. Do whatever you want.โ
Susie felt another urge to slap him again.
Johnathan responded calmly: โDonโt bother sending him away. With his IQ, heโs more likely to be manipulated if heโs out there. Let him stay. Keep an eye on him.โ
With that, he signaled Sierra to wheel him out.
Both Susie and Jose were stunned. That was it?
Jose couldnโt help but say, โIโm the one who did all of thisโit has nothing to do with my mom. If you want someone to blame, blame me.โ
