Chapter 82
Christopher didn't respond. The door to the master bedroom slammed shut.
Cynthia clenched her fist in the hallway, seething with anger, and retreated to her room. She immediately began relentlessly calling Melody. But no matter how many times she called, the voice was always mechanical, and no one replied to her messages. She was about to lose her mind.
In the master bedroom, he took a cold shower and then called Sheldon to check on his progress. After receiving the same reply, he irritably threw his phone away. Lying on the bed with his eyes wide open, he couldn't fall asleep. Melody had left yesterday, and now it was the second night. The thought of her possibly being with another man, sleeping with him, kissing him… His mind felt like it was about to explode, the rage consuming his rationality.
Next door, Cynthia couldn't sleep either. Soon, she heard things being smashed outside. Terrified, she didn't dare go out. Melody's departure should have been her opportunity to move in. But Christopher was furious, and she didn't want to be caught in the crossfire. So, she decided to wait. Once she found Melody's whereabouts, she would ensure she could never show her face around him again. That way, he would gradually forget her, and she could start over with him. A malicious smile curled at the corners of her lips, her eyes full of venom.
Meanwhile, Melody had already finished her shower in another neighborhood and gone to bed. Heidi hadn't returned home or gone to the guest room but had chosen to squeeze into bed with her. She set a password for her social media account to prevent Heidi from seeing Christopher's profile. The two seemed to know each other, and she didn't want to be found out.
The following day, in the president's office at Fuller Group, Sheldon arrived early and immediately noticed the dark circles under Christopher's eyes. He instinctively asked, "Mr. Faber, did you not sleep well last night?"
"I didn't sleep at all," Christopher replied coldly.
Sheldon was speechless. When Melody was around, he hadn't cherished her, but now that she was gone, he was losing sleep.
"There's a meeting at 10:00 am. You should rest a bit first," Sheldon suggested.
"No. Your task today is to continue investigating Melody's whereabouts. If you can't find anything," Christopher said, his voice growing more ominous, "stop working and get transferred to the secretary department."
Sheldon shuddered, his hair standing on end. He silently lamented as he turned to leave. He thought he should pack up and be demoted, and Melody shouldn't return. That way, he wouldn't have to face the terrifying Christopher anymore.
Christopher had calmed down somewhat after a night of anger and various speculations. He leaned forward on his desk, his fingers pressing against his forehead as he stared vacantly at the papers before him. His face was dark and menacing.
He searched through Melody's college yearbook and group photos, quickly retrieving them through his methods. He knew they had attended the same college. He also investigated all the competitions and projects she had participated in, the awards she had won, and the honors she had received. He spent two hours on this search. Looking at the photos from her college days, full of energy and a radiant smile, it was as if she was glowing.
There were pictures of her from speech competitions, where she spoke clearly and confidently, poised and elegant. She also displayed her calm and commanding presence, sharp thinking, and determined gaze in debate competitions. In the innovation and entrepreneurship competition, where her team repeatedly won first place, she confidently introduced their projects with impressive knowledge and strong execution skills.
Christopher didn't know when he had become so captivated by these images of Melody from her college days. He couldn't tear his eyes away until Sheldon knocked on the door to remind him about the meeting.
