Chapter 84

“No physical relationship? What about the kiss marks?” Christopher asked, his voice tight. “You mean you didn’t go all the way, but you didn’t miss anything else?” Sheldon added, his tone insinuating.

Christopher wanted to argue, but he couldn’t find the words.

“You brought her into your home, picked her up and dropped her off, and gave her expensive gifts. Your names were trending all over the news, and when an accident happened, you saved her first,” Sheldon continued, listing the facts. “When there were misunderstandings, you didn’t clear them up. You ignored Mrs. Fuller but spent time with someone else, and you never even cared about her when she was in the hospital.”

He sighed, finished speaking. Christopher fell silent, clenching his fists.

“You’ve gone too far, Mr. Fuller. If it were anyone else, they would have divorced you already,” Sheldon delivered his final blow.

The word “divorce” seemed to trigger Christopher. He stood up abruptly, pushing his chair back with a bang. Sheldon flinched, taking two steps back and nervously swallowing.

“She would never divorce me! Even if the world ends or pigs fly, she’ll never be able to leave me!” Christopher glared at Sheldon, his eyes blazing with fury. “You have no idea how much she loves me. She worked hard to get this marriage, so she would never give up being Mrs. Fuller!”

Sheldon remained silent, observing Christopher’s outburst. He thought, All I did was mention divorce. Does he need to be this agitated?

Despite Christopher’s assertions, it was evident he didn’t want a divorce. He was the one who couldn’t let go, yet remained stubborn.

“Don’t get so worked up. I was just speculating,” Sheldon said with a stiff smile.

“There’s no such speculation! If you can’t speak properly, shut up! Otherwise, I’ll deduct your bonus next time!” Christopher snapped.

Sheldon was speechless, only able to nod awkwardly, yielding to Christopher’s fury. “Do we still need to keep searching, Mr. Fuller? Mrs. Fuller removed her SIM card, and there are no records of her leaving the city, nor any hotel or hospital records,” he asked.

Christopher furrowed his brows. Melody hadn’t left the city or stayed at a hotel? Where could she be? He clenched his fist and slammed it onto the desk, the file rack shaking violently. Burning with anger, the only place he could think of where Melody might be was that “bastard’s” house.

Jealousy consumed him. He swept all the papers from the desk in one furious motion. Sheldon, already retreating to the door, trembled. This was the first time he’d seen Christopher lose all rationality. Even when angry before, he’d only shouted.

“Go investigate. Find out who the man with Melody is!” Christopher ground out through clenched teeth, his eyes filled with murderous intent.

Sheldon, puzzled, agreed and quickly left to carry out the order. He sighed as he left, thinking that finding Melody was hard enough; finding someone else seemed impossible. He couldn’t help but think that Christopher had brought this upon himself.

Christopher didn’t stop working all afternoon, continuing late into the night. Sheldon failed to find any leads, and it seemed Melody had disappeared without a trace.

At 8:00 pm, Cynthia sent a message asking him to dinner, but he didn’t respond or answer her calls. The evening rush began. At that moment, Christopher was driving with the windows down, the cool wind soothing his anger. Melody had been gone for two days. Where could she have gone?
