The previous night, Christophe had dreamed of Melody after falling asleep in her room, lying on her mattress.
After showering, he stepped out of the bathroom, the cool air helping to clear his mind. He realized that, regardless of his feelings, he didn't want her out of his sight or control. Seeing the wrinkled divorce papers by the bed, he initially planned to tear them up. However, before he could, he noticed a watermark and case analysis on the document's main body.
Christophe was speechless. It was a serious download error; in his office anger, he'd been careless and hadn't removed extra details before printing. But this worked perfectly. He wouldn't tear them up; he'd leave them as they were and use the same tactic against Melody. She'd dared to use a false divorce agreement; now he would create a more convincing one and see if she'd be scared. He wondered if she'd dare do it again.
This thought brought a smile; he enjoyed the sense of revenge. Knowing the agreement with Daniel was a sham, he realized there was no divorce. Melody had simply been angry and left home temporarily. She would return.
He slept soundly.
The following day, after waking, Daniel began his morning exercises while listening to Larry recount the previous night's events.
“So, he called at around 11:00 pm or 12:00 am? Doesn't he sleep?” Daniel grumbled.
“Mr. Fuller seemed very anxious initially. He appeared to need something from you, but then didn't mention it. Instead, he started talking about Mrs. Fuller, saying she'd left the house,” Larry explained.
“After all this time, he only just realized she'd left? Even a dead body would have started to stink by now in this summer heat,” Daniel said darkly.
He asked Larry what else Christophe had said. Hearing the details, he stopped exercising, so upset he was.
“Forging a signature? He has a good imagination. Melody graduated from Ashford University and is an outstanding student. Why would she do something like that? If Christophe were before me, I would hit him with my belt,” he muttered.
“Mr. Fuller Senior, are you saying the document was actually signed by Mr. Fuller?” Larry asked.
“Yes. Otherwise, Melody wouldn't have sent it to me. It's Christophe who signed it, but he doesn't want to admit it,” Daniel snorted.
“Why won't he admit it if he signed it?” Larry asked, confused.
“He's obviously regretting it! He must have gone crazy when he couldn't reach anyone in the middle of the night,” Daniel said, understanding everything.
Larry remained silent, then said, “I can't figure out what's going on with Mr. Fuller. It seems like he doesn't want a divorce, but then he continues to say he does…”
Daniel immediately instructed him to call Christophe. On the other end, Christophe had just woken up.
“Grandpa, why are you up so early?” he asked.
“Do you think I'm like you? Your wife ran off, and you can still sleep?” Daniel said sarcastically.
Christophe immediately snapped to attention. He sat up, his expression turning serious.
“Grandpa, could you help me find Melody's new phone number? Her old one's been disconnected,” Christophe said.
“I found it four days ago,” Daniel replied.
Suddenly hopeful, Christophe said, “Send it to me right now!”
