Chapter 108: What a Waste
Jared ignored him, surveying the cigars on the table. He picked one up, sniffed it lightly, and declared, "This is a good cigar. What a waste!"
He lit the cigar, took a puff, and exhaled a smoke ring. His expression suggested he was enjoying it.
Seeing his nonchalant, almost intoxicated expression, the men were enraged.
"Brat! I'll kill you for injuring Mr. Murphy!"
Lux roared, lunging at Jared with a powerful punch that whistled through the air, revealing his combat training.
Jared remained unfazed. He took another puff of his cigar and exhaled, the smoke drifting toward the charging Lux. Lux, previously moving with lightning speed, abruptly froze mere centimeters from Jared.
Everyone stared in disbelief. Jared then kicked Lux, sending him flying out of the office and crashing heavily to the ground.
"Lux!"
Dexter's face paled, and he rushed to Lux's side. Lux was his most skilled fighter, a ten-year veteran of kickboxing. Dexter was horrified to find Lux unconscious, his chest caved in, blood trickling from his mouth. His eyes were wide open.
"Kill him! Finish him off!"
Rage consumed Dexter. "I've never been so disrespected! I'll tear him apart!"
The remaining men attacked Jared. They were confident they could overpower him in the confined space, despite his apparent skill.
"You asked for it!"
Jared moved like a whirlwind, his speed too fast for them to react. In seconds, they were all on the ground, howling in pain. Though he spared their lives, their broken limbs testified to the severity of their injuries.
Dexter was dumbfounded; the girl beside him was ashen. He couldn't believe his men, outnumbered as they were, had been defeated by a man who seemed so frail.
Jared sneered, stalking toward Dexter. "You could have owed anyone, but you had to owe me. I hate it when people owe me moneyโฆ"
"W-Who are you? I only owe Sentiment Chemical Limited! Aren't you an employee?" Dexter stammered, his eyes wide with fear.
Jared smirked. "Of course. Sentiment Chemical Limited belongs to Josephine Sullivan, daughter of the Sullivan family. And she's my woman. So, don't you owe me money?"
Terror dawned on Dexter's face. "Y-You're theโฆ" He could barely speak, his mouth agape.
As a former gangster, Dexter knew many things, though he hadn't been invited to Walter's banquet. He'd heard of Jared, but never imagined this seemingly insignificant young man was the same personโthe one who defeated Steven Fisher and was revered by Walter Grange and Tommy Lewis.
