Chapter 13: You Are Going Too Far
"Leyton!" Yoel swiftly stepped forward to support Leyton. After examining his arm, he concluded it was broken and would require several months to heal.
"How dare you hurt my son, you bastard? I'm going to kill you!"
Due to the wedding, he had initially only planned to teach Jared a lesson. But now, only one thought consumed himโkilling Jared. Humiliation before the many Horington merchants present was unacceptable.
He whipped out his phone and summoned all his bodyguardsโhighly skilled martial artists he'd paid a king's ransom to hire. They were far superior to Baldy and his cronies, mere thugs who'd attached themselves to Leyton.
Despite seeing Yoel call for reinforcements, Jared remained unfazed. He calmly sat back down, sipping his water. This infuriated Yoel further, as it demonstrated a blatant disregard for the Scott family.
"Kill him, Dad! I want him dead!" Leyton roared, his face contorted in pain.
"Don't worry, Leyton. I'll toss him in the river for the fish today!" Yoel swore, gazing at his son with anguish.
Knowing Jared was skilled, Yoel waited for his bodyguards to arrive. Just then, Josephine entered the banquet hall, hurrying to investigate the commotion.
"What happened, Mr. Scott?" Josephine asked.
"This kid caused a scene at my son's wedding and injured him. There will be bloodshed at your hotel today," Yoel replied, pointing at Jared.
Josephine was stunned. She never imagined the troublemaker would be Jared, and that he hadn't yet left.
"Mr. Chance? How could it be you?" Josephine asked, bewildered.
"Surprised, Ms. Sullivan?" Jared smiled.
"You know him, Josephine?" Yoel's brows furrowed.
"Mr. Scott, there's a misunderstanding. Mr. Chance is here to treat my father," Josephine clarified.
"Treat your father?" Yoel's frown deepened.
"Who are you? This man has no medical skills! He was just released from prison! He knows nothing about medicine! I've known him for years, and he's never treated anyone!" Sandy shrieked.
Josephine's expression turned cold. Recognizing Sandy as the new bride, she suppressed her anger. "I can decide for myself. Your lack of knowledge doesn't negate his skills!"
"Nonsense! We were classmates and dated for years! Even when I was sick, I went to the hospital! He carried me there once in the rain! If he had medical skills, I wouldn't have needed to go!" Sandy scoffed, clearly disdainful of Jared.
Josephine looked at Jared, seemingly understanding his actions.
"Don't interfere, Josephine. I'll get a foreign expert for your father. But this kid dies today!" Yoel declared, his tone brooking no argument. He felt no need to be courteous to the younger Josephine.
"No, you can't hurt Mr. Chance!" Josephine stepped in front of Jared. I need him to save my father!
Yoel's expression froze. "Are you forcing my hand, Josephine?" Murderous intent glinted in his eyes. Dozens of Scott family bodyguards burst in, radiating menace.
"Mr. Scott, I won't allow you to hurt Mr. Chance!" Josephine was immediately shielded by more than a dozen hotel security guards.
Tension filled the banquet hall. Guests retreated, fearing the impending violence.
"Girl, I could kill you if it weren't for your father! Step aside! Do you think these guards will stop me?" Yoel's courtesy vanished.
The Scott family bodyguards unleashed their intimidating presence, terrifying the hotel security guards. Josephine paled, but remained resolute.
"Scott, scaring a child at your age is going too far."
The banquet hall door opened again. William entered, displeasure etched on his face.
