Chapter 149: Open Them Up
"Jared, forget about it," Hilda whispered anxiously.
Lincoln burst into laughter at Hilda's distress. He mocked Jared, "Hey punk, you still have time to change your mind. Can you even afford this brandy? You look like you don't have twenty thousand on you. Stop bluffing, punk!"
Jared grinned. "Change my mind? What for? It's just brandy. I've drunk it before. But if you're regretting this, you can still stop the waiters."
"Hahaha! Are you kidding? Why would I? A few million is nothing to me," Lincoln laughed. "Let's see how long you can keep this up. Once the liquor arrives, you'll regret it."
Soon, the waiters arrived with ten bottles of brandy. Everyone was amazed; none had ever seen such expensive liquor.
"Sir, do you need help opening them?" one waiter asked Lincoln.
Lincoln hesitated, turning to Jared. "Jared, are you sure about this? Once they're open, it's too late to back down!" He was certain Jared was bluffing and hoped none would be opened, as he couldn't afford the bill.
Jared smiled faintly and said to the waiter, "Please open all of them."
"Yes, sir." The waiter began opening the bottles.
Lincoln was stunned. Pop! A second bottle was opened. With each cork pulled, Lincoln felt his heart sink. Soon, he was drenched in cold sweat. "Jared, don't forget we're at the Glamor Hotel, a Sullivan family business. You can't leave without paying!" he threatened, hoping to stop the waiter.
"I'm not planning to. Are you worried you can't afford it? If so, tell them to stop!" Jared sneered.
"What makes you think I can't? My monthly expenses exceed your annual salary!" Lincoln knew it was too late; he'd ordered the brandy.
By the time all ten bottles were open, Lincoln's heart sank.
"This is good liquor," Jared said, pouring a large glass and drinking it down.
Lincoln looked at Jared with contempt. "Let's drink! Don't let him hog it all! It seems Jared's never seen such expensive liquor before!"
Everyone poured themselves a drink. Even Yvonne and Michelle, non-drinkers, poured full glasses, taking advantage of the opportunity.
Hilda, however, wasn't drinking. She was comforting a distressed Yolanda.
