"Otherwise, he wouldn't have given Jared such a good opportunity!" Maria said furiously. "All right. Stop nagging. I'm in a bad mood!" Zayne glared at Maria before leaving the office and walking to Jared's desk. "Jared, Mr. Jennings wants you in his office. It's probably about the contract. You know what to say. If Maria and I hadn't built a good relationship with Cosmic Chemical, would you have secured the contract so easily?"
Jared sneered at Zayne. Without speaking, he got up and left. Zayne was furious. He muttered, "Hmph! If it weren't for Maria's recommendation, you wouldn't be here. How dare you oppose me? I'll make you regret it."

Xavier glared intently. He couldn't understand why Josephine preferred Jared, an average man—an ex-convict—over him, a top student who'd studied overseas. If Jared were rich or a politician's son, Xavier wouldn't feel so aggrieved.
Jared smirked. "Liking someone doesn't require reasons. Josephine likes me. What can you do about it?" This provoked Xavier. Despite trying to remain calm, he lost his temper. "Jared, leave Horington and stay away from Josephine. Don't ever come back, or you'll regret it!" Xavier bellowed, his eyes wide.
"Regret it?" Jared smirked coldly. "I've never regretted anything. And you have no right to order, let alone threaten me."
"I'll show you if I have the right." Xavier pulled a gun from his drawer and pointed it at Jared. His hands trembled; it was his first time pointing a gun at someone.
