Chapter 186: I Do Not Believe You

Mark approached Jared briskly, apologizing smoothly. "Mr. Chance, I'm truly sorry. My brother-in-law is new; please forgive him."

Zayne and the others were stunned by the manager's subservience.

"Are you mistaken? He trespassed, crashed a car, and assaulted your brother-in-law! Why are you so deferential? Is this standard maintenance department service?" Zayne asked incredulously.

Lydia scoffed, "Exactly! Security stopped us when we were looking at properties, yet you're courteous to an intruder? This makes me question the department's competence. He's an ex-convict! Why are you so obsequious? Do you think he owns property here?"

Zayne continued, "If he could afford a house here, he wouldn't be driving that beat-up Ford. He claims the hilltop mansion is his! He's boasting. I'm his direct superior at the company; I know him wellโ€”he's all talk!"

Mark looked from Zayne and Lydia to Jared. Their mockery made it clear they weren't friends. Seeing Jared's silence, Mark intervened, saying to Zayne and Lydia, "Mr. Chance does own property here. That hilltop mansion is his."

Zayne, Lydia, and Maria were speechless.

The sales associate, Maria, looked doubtful. "But Mr. Carlson, the mansion's owner is listed as Sullivan. I handled the paperwork."

Zayne exclaimed, "Are you mistaken? That mansion costs hundreds of millions! A salesman driving a battered Ford? I'll never believe it!"

Zayne and Lydia grilled Mark. "You're a terrible manager! How can you be so confused about property ownership? Does Jared look like he owns a mansion?"

Mark scoffed coldly. "You know more than the maintenance manager, huh? The previous owner was Sullivan, but the mansion belongs to Mr. Chance. If you have nothing else, leave. You're banned from this district."

Zayne and the others were shocked. No one believed Jared owned a multi-million dollar mansion.

Jared said, "Can I leave, Mr. Carlson?" He needed to continue his training.

"Of course! I apologize for the delay, Mr. Chance." Mark's demeanor instantly became respectful; he even opened the car door for Jared.

Jared drove his damaged Ford toward the hilltop. Passing Zayne and the others, he rolled down his window and smirked at Zayne.

Zayne roared, "I don't believe it! It's impossible! I'll follow him and see for myself! He's lying!"

Maria watched Jared's car speed away, her cheeks burning. She now believed Jared wasn't boasting; he couldn't have bribed such a senior manager.
