Chapter 204: The Search for a Doctor
Upon arriving at the Sullivan residence and meeting Walter, Jared immediately asked, "Mr. Grange, has Abbot Erasmus returned?"
Walter nodded. "Yes, Abbot Erasmus has returned!"
"Mr. Grange, please take me to him immediately!" Jared's impatience was evident.
"Mr. Chance, Abbot Erasmus is back, but" Walter seemed hesitant.
"Mr. Grange, be frank. If it's money, I can arrange it," Jared offered.
Josephine interjected, "Mr. Grange, regardless of the cost, tell us. The spiritual brush and cinnabar rosary are essential for healing Mrs. Chance's eyes. She cannot be healed without them!"
She knew Jared needed these items. They were listed on the prescription he'd given her, and she had searched diligently, even offering a reward, but to no avail. These items were rare and difficult to obtain.
Walter shook his head. "Mr. Chance, it's not money Abbot Erasmus desires. Such things are insignificant to those dedicated to their spiritual beliefs. His daughter is seriously ill. Many renowned doctors have been consulted, but to no avail. He hopes you can heal her with the spiritual brush and cinnabar rosary."
Jared immediately understood. Walter must have informed Abbot Erasmus of his healing abilities; it was the only explanation for this condition. Jared was confident he could heal anyone, barring those dying of old age or organ failure.
"Mr. Grange, what ails Abbot Erasmus's daughter?" Jared inquired.
"I'm unsure of the specifics. However, she's been frail since childhood, her body cold and weak, as if perpetually submerged in ice. Despite numerous blankets, this has persisted for years. They've sought treatment far and wide, all to no effect. They even traveled to a distant land, posting notices in monasteries and donating to charity to improve her health, but there's been no improvement," Walter explained.
"Her body is cold like ice?" Jared mused, a thought striking him. He then said, "Mr. Grange, please take us to her. I can treat Abbot Erasmus's daughter."
He couldn't wait. He needed the spiritual brush and cinnabar rosary to heal his mother.
"Certainly, let's go now!" Walter agreed.
Two cars departed the Glamor Hotel for Lagrange Monastery, situated on Lagrange Mountain, the highest peak in Jazona. The towering mountain, shrouded in dense forest, was rumored to be inhabited by fairies who aided lost travelers; hence, the monastery's location.
The winding mountain road was long and treacherous, yet the monastery had become a popular pilgrimage site.
At the mountain's base, Walter announced, "Mr. Chance, we must trek the rest of the way."
"Let's go!" Jared replied.
Jared had known of Lagrange Monastery but never visited.
Luca remained to guard the cars while Jared, Walter, Tommy, William, and Josephine began their ascent. With Jared present, Walter's safety wasn't a concern, eliminating the need for Luca's escort.
Josephine, captivated by the verdant trees and winding path, ran and stopped, frequently exclaiming with joy.
William cautioned, "Josephine, conserve your energy; you'll be exhausted before we reach the top!" The initial excitement would fade, replaced by fatigue.
"I'm fine!" she insisted, ignoring his advice.
