Chapter 207: Warm Jade

As they entered, a robed man with a beard rushed forward. Erasmus said, "Mr. Grange, I apologize for the delay. Please forgive me."

Walter bowed respectfully, then gestured toward Jared. "This is Mr. Chance, who requires the spiritual brush and cinnabar rosary. I've brought him to examine your daughter."

Erasmus glanced at Jared, his brow furrowed slightly, but he quickly recovered, smiling. "There's no rush. Let's have something to drink. My senior is attending to my daughter now." He gestured for them to follow.

As Jared entered the main hall, he felt a sudden chill, so intense that it sent a shiver through him despite the heat.

Noticing Jared's reaction, Walter asked, "Is something wrong, Mr. Chance?"

"Oh, nothing!" Jared smiled and shook his head.

Erasmus turned, a disdainful smile playing on his lips. "You feel the coolness in here, yes? There's an old well behind the monastery; its water is perpetually freezing. We've channeled it to cool the monastery."

Jared offered a polite smile in response.

They followed Erasmus through the hall to a small courtyard and a room where a young girl with delicate features lay on a bed. Despite a thick blanket, her face was deathly pale, almost frostbitten; a thin layer of frost coated her skin. An elderly man, Leonidas, sat beside her, a jade scepter in his hand, occasionally tapping her forehead and muttering.

Erasmus explained softly, "This is my senior, Leonidas. He's trying to remove the frosty energy. We attempted this last year, unsuccessfully. This time, he has a jade scepter of warm jade to absorb it."

He continued, "Warm jade is created through intense heat, remarkably retaining heat year-round. Even in freezing temperatures, it returns to its normal temperature in under half an hour. Such jade is rare; finding a piece large enough for a scepter is even rarer."

Their curiosity piqued, they watched Leonidas, who remained cold and distant, a glint of mockery in his eyes. He ignored them. With each tap of the scepter, they saw it absorb the girl's frosty energy.

After more than ten taps, Leonidas stopped.

Erasmus asked eagerly, "Will she recover soon?"

Leonidas shook his head. "It won't be easy. A large amount of frosty energy has been trapped for a long time. We must proceed slowly. The scepter has lost its warmth and needs to rest."

Erasmus nodded. "I see. How long to dispel all the energy?"

Leonidas frowned, pondering. "At least three days, possibly six months."

Worry etched on his face, Erasmus fell silent.
