Chapter 208: Ignorant
โEven if you could do it in half a month, it wouldn't matter. Judging by the jade scepter's frosty energy absorption rate, it would likely take a lifetime. Moreover, she only has three days to live at most,โ Jared remarked slowly.
Leonidas' brows furrowed, and he glared at Jared. "Erasmus, who is this ignorant brat? How dare he spout such nonsense?"
"He's the person Mr. Grange asked to help cure Renee. As you know, Mr. Grange is a loyal patron of this monastery," Erasmus replied hastily.
Leonidas snorted angrily. "Even so, this greenhorn dares to doubt me! Get him out of here!"
Leonidas was clearly offended by Jared's remark.
Erasmus paled. His close friendship with Walter made dismissing Jared unceremoniously inappropriate.
"What's the matter? Do you really believe that brat can cure your daughter? In that case, I'm leaving!" Leonidas picked up the jade scepter and started to leave.
"Please calm down!" Erasmus cried, reaching out to stop Leonidas. Turning to Walter, he said uneasily, "Mr. Grange, perhaps you and your friends should leave for a while. My senior prefers not to be disturbed." He shot Jared an anxious look. He trusted Jared, but felt helpless.
"Abbot Erasmus, your daughter has what's called a frosty constituent. This attracts frosty energy. Harnessing this energy can strengthen the body and grant eternal youth. However, she hasn't been taught how to do so. Therefore, the frosty energy has accumulated, causing her condition," Jared explained.
He paused, then continued: "While the jade scepter absorbs frosty energy, it's not powerful enough compared to the rate of its accumulation in your daughter's body. Furthermore, the frosty energy in the monastery's ancient well is potent. She won't survive beyond three days."
Jared's lengthy explanation was motivated by his desire for the spiritual brush and cinnabar rosary. [Remove the website promotion]
Erasmus was dumbfounded. Though unfamiliar with his daughter's condition, Jared's explanation seemed plausible.
"What a mountain of lies! Frosty constituent? Eternal youth? You might as well claim immortality! This is utter nonsense. In all my years as a monk, I've never heard of such a thing!" Leonidas responded coldly, regarding Jared with disdain.
Jared retorted impassively, "Your ignorance is the reason you don't know. That jade scepter, while magical, will shatter if you continue using it."
[The following paragraph should be integrated into the previous paragraph, perhaps as:] "It is capable of absorbing frosty energy, but Renee's frosty energy is too strong. My ability to sense it proves its power. A warm jade scepter cannot withstand it; it will shatter."
"Rubbish! Even in extreme cold, the scepter returns to its original temperature. It won't break. Stop this nonsense and leave! You're not welcome at Lagrange Monastery!"
Leonidas seethed, furious at Jared's disrespect. No one had ever dared to insult him like that.
Jared snorted disdainfully. [Remove the internal monologue]
"You insolent brat! You're asking for it!"
Leonidas flew into a rage, lifting his cane and charging toward Jared.
"Stop, please!"
Alarmed, Erasmus quickly intervened.
Walter and the others watched in shock at Leonidas' impulsive outburst.
