Chapter 22: Regained Sight
“Oh, right! How forgetful I am! I completely forgot this is your house, so naturally, your clothes are here. Hurry and change before you catch a cold!” Hannah urged Josephine. Then, turning to Jared, she said, “You must treat Josephine well. She’s a wealthy heiress, yet she didn’t get angry when we misunderstood her, or disdain you for being poor, or me for being blind. That shows she truly loves you. Cherish her!”
“Mom, let’s focus on healing your eyes first. Since you lost your sight from crying, this will be easy!” Jared replied.
With his spiritual brush and cinnabar rosary, Jared was ready to restore his mother's sight. He planned to make pills with Josephine's medicinal herbs the following day to complete the healing.
Hannah was skeptical. “Don’t tease me! My sight can’t be restored. It’s been years, and I’ve accepted it.”
“Just wait, Mom. You’ll see again soon!” Jared assured her, helping her into a chair. He then produced the brush and rosary.
Hannah's eyes were open, but her gaze was dull, her pupils barely visible. Jared inhaled deeply, then lightly brushed the spiritual brush across the cinnabar rosary. The moment the brush touched the rosary, a faint fragrance filled the air, and the rosary vanished, merging with the brush.
“How fragrant! What is that, Jared?” Hannah asked, her sense of smell heightened by her impaired vision.
“Mom, this is the miracle cure I got on the mountain. It can restore your sight. The person who gave it to me said it would definitely work!” Jared lied, fearing she wouldn’t accept the truth about his cultivation.
“Oh, no! You’ve been tricked! Those people are charlatans!” Hannah scolded, but a flicker of hope remained. She longed to see the world again, more than Gary's descriptions could ever convey. Most of all, she wanted to see Josephine, her future daughter-in-law.
Jared lifted the brush and gently tapped Hannah’s eye. “Mom, it might sting a little.” He repeated the process on her other eye.
“Ahh!” Hannah cried out, squeezing her eyes shut in pain.
Gary, sleeping in the room, rushed out in his hastily donned clothes. “What’s wrong with your mother, Jared?” he asked anxiously, watching Hannah’s pained expression.
“Don’t worry, Dad. I’m applying medicine to her eyes. She’ll be able to see soon!” Jared reassured him.
Within seconds, Hannah’s pain subsided, and her expression relaxed. Slowly, she opened her eyes, met by the hopeful faces of Jared and Gary.
“Jared! I… I can see!” Overwhelmed with emotion, she trembled, gently stroking Jared’s face.
“Mom, I promised I’d heal your eyes!” Jared said, equally overjoyed.
