Chapter 265: Persistent Feeling
“Mr. Chance, I’ll look into this immediately,” Glen said, glaring at Devin and Benedict. “Effective today, you’re both dismissed. A full investigation will be launched. If corruption is discovered, you will face severe punishment!”
Thud!
Devin and Benedict collapsed, utterly shocked. All our dirty deeds will be exposed, they thought. We can’t escape punishment.
“Mr. Lowe, Mr. Chance, perhaps we should continue this elsewhere,” Tommy suggested. He’d already instructed his men to prepare another room.
“Very well,” Glen agreed, turning to his companions. “You may return home. I’ll be back shortly.”
After they left, Glen and Jared departed. Before leaving himself, Tommy cast a scornful glance at Devin, Benedict, and their family.
As the Chances watched Jared go, regret washed over them. This wouldn't have happened if we hadn't disrespected Jared. But it was too late.
Jared didn’t linger. He exchanged a few words with Glen, who thanked him profusely and pleaded for mercy toward his son, Frederick.
Jared readily agreed. As long as Frederick leaves me alone, I won't bother him.
Exiting the restaurant, Jared saw his parents rushing toward him, panic etched on their faces.
“Jared, are you alright?” Hannah asked anxiously.

Tears welled in Jared’s eyes. He hugged Hannah. “Mom, I don’t need it. Benedict already paid.”
Their concern deeply touched him. He’d planned to ask about his adoption, but seeing their worry, he changed his mind. Who cares if I’m adopted? They’re my parents.
“Benedict paid? Has he lost his mind?” Hannah exclaimed incredulously.
“Let’s leave. This place feels wrong,” Gary urged, sensing unease.
Jared went home. Hannah and Gary returned the money they’d borrowed.
Back in his room, Jared attempted to cultivate, but Benedict’s voice echoed in his mind.
“Damn it!” Jared snarled, shaking his head violently, but the voice persisted. The only way to stop this is to find out the truth!
Yet, he hesitated. Hannah and Gary had showered him with love. Gary, though stern, had never harmed him. He’d never questioned if they were his real parents. Now, his thoughts were a chaotic mess.
His turmoil kept him restless all day. Only Hannah’s call for dinner roused him. Seeing his pale face, she asked, “Jared, are you feeling alright?”
