Chapter 268: Laughingstock
Instead of answering Jared, the woman continued, โMy son, there are many things in this world you don't understand. You mustn't be curious, or explore them. The unknown is dangerous. Your blood runs in your veins; you should be exceptional. But there's no need to fear. Live a normal life. Do not go to the Heavenly Realm or Dragon Island. Do not go! I'm glad you're safe. Don't look for me; it's futile. Remember my wordsโdon't go to Dragon Island!โ
The woman's figure blurred and vanished.
โWho are you? What's going on?โ Jared shouted, but received no reply.
Silence returned to the room. Only the dust on the floor proved the encounter real.
โDragon Islandโฆ Why Dragon Island? What's happening?โ
Jared was utterly confused. He didn't understand why his biological mother, as she claimed, forbade him from the Heavenly Realm and Dragon Island, when Draco had brought him to the Heavenly Realm and urged him to go to Dragon Island once his powers grew stronger. One urged him to go; the other forbade it. He was baffled.
Hours passed, yet the puzzle remained unsolved. He knew so little; understanding seemed impossible.
โI'll increase my abilities first, then decide after visiting Nameless Island on July 15th. Maybe I'll understand then,โ he mused, sighing.
Giving up, he pulled the covers over his head and fell asleep.
Late that night, luxurious cars lined up outside the Phoenix Bar. Inside, handsome men and beautiful women partied.
In a corner, dozens of empty alcohol bottles sat before Leyton. He'd been drinking for hours. Though Jared wouldn't seek further trouble with the Scott family, Leyton had become the laughingstock of high society.
โLey, I knew you'd be here. Stop drinking! You've had enough.โ
Sandy, dressed provocatively, arrived and sat beside him. Knowing Jared would never forgive her, especially after her humiliation at the reunion, she turned to Leyton for support. He was her only hope; her reputation in Horington's upper class was ruined.
โYouโฆ Why are you here? Go away!โ
Terrified, Leyton shoved her away.
โLey, are you still afraid of Jared? You gave him two companies; he promised no more trouble. Why are you still scared?โ she demanded.
Many in the bar turned to stare, mocking the fallen Scott heir. His gift of his companies was their gleeful topic.
Leyton's anger flared under their gazes. โNonsense! Why would I be scared of him? I'm not afraid of anyone!โ
Drunk, he no longer felt fear.
โLey, if you're not scared, let's get back together. We sent out wedding invitations. Aren't you afraid of becoming a laughingstock if the wedding's called off?โ Sandy asked, throwing her arms around his neck.
