Chapter 269: I Need to Talk to You
Sandy didn't know Leyton was the subject of ridicule in high society; otherwise, he wouldn't be drowning his sorrows alone.
"A laughingstock? Who dares laugh at me? Even after the Scott family gave away two companies, we're still elite! Who dares mock me?" Leyton roared, slamming the table.
Everyone glared at him but ignored his taunts.
Clap! Clap! Clap!
Someone sauntered over, clapping. A cold smirk played on his lips as he stared at Leyton. "The scion of the Scott family, terrified of an ex-convict, yet you brag in a bar?"
Furious, Leyton barked, "Who the f*ck dares insult me? Iโ" He faltered, recognizing the man. He sobered slightly, exclaiming fearfully, "M-Mr. Whitaker!"
It was Tyrion Whitaker of the Summerbank Whitakers. Seeing him in Horington, other scions rushed over, eager to meet him. Some young women even openly flirted.
Horington paled in comparison to Summerbank. If Horington were a cat, Summerbank was a tiger. Even Horington's most powerful families were insignificant compared to Summerbank's wealthy elite.
"Get lost!"
Tyrion's bodyguards chased the scions away. Despite their usual arrogance, the young socialites didn't dare protest and quickly left.
Sandy was astounded. She'd considered dating Leyton a peak achievement, but this revealed her naivete.
"Come out. I need to talk to you."
Tyrion turned and left, glancing at Sandy as he did. Noticing his gaze, she lifted her chin and puffed out her chest, trying to impress him.
He smirked and left. Leyton, supported by Sandy, stumbled out of the bar.
Tyrion waited in a Rolls-Royce. Rolling down the window, he instructed, "Get in the car."
Sandy helped Leyton, but he shoved her away. "Scram!"
She feigned a pitiful look at Tyrion.
"Let her come."
Leyton dared not object. Delighted, Sandy entered the car.
After a half-hour drive, the car stopped on a dark, under-construction road. The lack of streetlights made it terrifyingly dark.
"M-Mr. Whitaker, why did youโ"
Leyton's fear sobered him more than the alcohol.
"Everyone, leave."
Tyrion dismissed his bodyguards, then looked at Sandy, who reluctantly got out.
Only Tyrion and Leyton remained. Cold sweat beaded on Leyton's forehead. I've never offended the Whitakers. Why did Tyrion bring me here?
"Is that woman your girlfriend?" Tyrion asked.
"Yes No! No, she isn't" Leyton shook his head. "She's not anymore."
Tyrion harrumphed. "You coward! You broke up with her because of Jared, right? She's his ex-girlfriend."
Leyton was stunned. He didn't know how Tyrion knew.
