Chapter 299: Highway Fight
On the highway, Tommy drove attentively. Jared and Josephine, engrossed in conversation in the backseat, engaged in a public display of affection that Tommy endured throughout the day. Suddenly, a black car pulled alongside, then cut in front of them.
The black car braked sharply, forcing Tommy to brake hard as well. Josephine screamed as her body lurched forward. The tires screeched, burning rubber filling the air.
After the car came to a stop, Tommy began to steer around the black car when he sensed danger.
โMr. Chance, Ms. Sullivan, fasten your seatbelts!โ Tommy shouted.
Jared, sensing trouble, quickly helped Josephine buckle up. As they maneuvered past the black car, Tommy accelerated, only to find the black car in hot pursuit.
Bang!
The rear of Jaredโs car was struck, jerking it forward. Thankfully, Josephineโs seatbelt prevented her from being ejected.
Tommy sped toward Yeringham, the engine roaring as the damaged rear end dragged on the road, showering sparks.
โFollow them! We have to ram them! Mr. Whitaker wonโt forgive us!โ a middle-aged man in the passenger seat of the black car yelled.
โWho are these people, Jared?โ Josephine asked, her face pale.
Jared shook his head. He didnโt know, but suspected they were sent by the Whitaker family.
Cold sweat beaded on Tommyโs forehead as he concentrated on driving. Any mistake at this speed could be fatal.
โSlow down for the next turn! I want to see who they are!โ Jaredโs eyes gleamed with a bloodthirsty intent.
โItโs too dangerous, Mr. Chance!โ Tommy exclaimed, glancing at Jared in the rearview mirror. If Jared exited the car at this speed, the black car would surely hit him.
โJust slow down when I say so!โ Jared snapped.
Tommy remained silent, slowing the car as they approached the corner. Jared unbuckled his seatbelt, opened the door, and prepared to jump.
Josephine grabbed him. โBe careful, Jared!โ
He nodded, leaped from the moving vehicle, and landed after a few rolls. Instead of stopping, Tommy continued at a slower speed, eyes fixed on the rearview mirror. Josephine also turned, watching Jared through the back window, her hands clasped tightly, her palms sweating.
The black carโs driver, unable to see Jared at that speed, instinctively swerved. As the car changed direction, Jared reappearedโon top of the car. He smashed through the window and punched the driver.
The impact caused the car to flip twice before landing on the road. All four occupants were trapped inside as gasoline leaked from the wreckage. (Note: The sentence about a website has been omitted as it is irrelevant and likely an advertisement.)
