Chapter 298: Afraid of His Wife
Josephine had maintained a good relationship with her aunt's family while living in Yeringham. However, after her mother's death, the two families drifted apart.
"I wonder how my aunt and her family are doing, and if my cousins are married," Josephine mused, worry clouding her eyes. "I should visit them while we're in the area."
Jared, watching her, felt a pang of sympathy. People often assumed a wealthy young woman would always be happy, but he knew Josephine longed for familial love. Orphaned at a young age and without siblings, she and her father had lived alone.
After a swift exit from Horington, they joined the highway. Unbeknownst to them, a black car followed. The numerous vehicles on the road obscured any unusual activity.
Meanwhile, at the Whitaker residence, Kane sat grim-faced, smoking. He had spent a fortune on renowned doctors, including specialists from overseas, to treat Tyrion's shattered leg. Despite their efforts, the injury was too severe to repair. Even with a prosthetic, Tyrion would never walk normally; he would be crippled.
"I don't want to be a cripple! I don't want to be a cripple!" Tyrion screamed hysterically from his bed.
His mother, Lucy Jantz, an elegantly dressed woman, sobbed softly as she comforted him. "Don't worry, Ty. We'll find a way to treat your leg!"
The Jantz family, renowned in Summerbank for their numerous dojos, wielded considerable power. Lucy's father was a legendary warrior of immense skill and strength, making the family untouchable. Their combined influence with the Whitakers rendered them virtually invincible in Summerbank.
"You're a loser, Kane!" Lucy scolded. "Our son is crippled, and you do nothing! How long has this been going on? Where's the culprit?"
Kane remained silent. He was a fierce man in public, but at home, he was cowed by his powerful brother-in-law, Wilbur Jantz. He knew he would lose any confrontation.
"If you can't handle it, let Willy do it!" Lucy snapped. "Tell Wilbur to go to Horington and capture him! Look at how pathetic you are!"
Wilbur Jantz, known throughout Summerbank for his ruthlessness and power, was almost as formidable as his father.
At that moment, Kane's phone rang. His subordinate reported, "Jared has left the city! He's heading to Yeringham with Josephine and Tommy. They're on the highway."
Kane's eyes gleamed with malicious intent. "Excellent! Do it now! Run them off the road if necessary! Bring them back, dead or alive!" Finally, he could unleash his frustration after his wife's tirade.
