Chapter 339: Torment
If Jared had seen the girl, he would have undoubtedly recognized her resemblance to Walter. She was, in fact, Walter's granddaughter, Lizbeth Grange.
After retiring, Walter left Summerbank for Horington, while his children and grandchildren remained.
"Are there no survivors?" Anthony asked, furrowing his brows.
"None. And all the surveillance cameras were removed; we have no footage," Lizbeth replied, shaking her head.
"What do you think happened, Lizbeth?" Anthony inquired.
"It seems like revenge," Lizbeth analyzed. "The perpetrator didn't take valuables, and the victims died gruesomely. It looks like someone held a serious grudge against the Whitaker family."
"If that's the case, investigate everyone who opposed them," Anthony sighed. "All hell will break loose in Summerbank. We'll have a lot to deal with."
"General, regarding the Jantz family, weโ" Lizbeth began, but was interrupted.
An ear-splitting roar from the entrance cut her short. "Get lost! I'll kill anyone who stands in my way!" The voice was filled with murderous intent.
A group of angry people stormed in. The officials, paralyzed by fear, made no attempt to stop them.
A white-bearded old man appeared to lead the group. He surveyed the scene with bloodshot eyes. Wilbur stood beside him.
The group was from the Jantz family. The old man was Zachariah Jantz, Lucy's father. He had rushed to the scene with his men upon hearing of the Whitaker family's misfortune.
"Who did this? I'll torment their family!" Zachariah raged, his body trembling. His voice boomed. A Grandmaster of internal energy was not to be trifled with.
"Mr. Jantz!" Anthony greeted hastily.
"Anthony, what happened to my sister's family? Who did this?" Wilbur demanded sullenly, showing little respect.
Despite his displeasure, Anthony replied, "I'm sorry for your loss, Mr. Jantz. Unfortunately, none of the Whitaker family survived."
Zachariah's knees buckled.
"Dad!" Wilbur cried, supporting Zachariah.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Jantz," Anthony offered condolences.
Zachariah recovered from his shock.
"I don't care who did it, but I swear I'll destroy them!" Murderous intent filled his eyes. He addressed Anthony: "General Long, the Jantz family will handle this. Take your men away."
"But, Mr. Jantzโฆ" Anthony protested.
Zachariah cut him off. "Wilbur, see them out."
Lizbeth objected. "How can you do this? The Department of Justice must handle a case of this magnitude. How will you and your family solve this?" She confronted Zachariah.
Zachariah glanced at Lizbeth, frowning. "Who is this?"
"Dad, she's Walter's granddaughter!" Wilbur answered promptly.
"Hmph! Does your grandfather think he could speak to me like that?" Zachariah scoffed.
Anthony quickly intervened. "Mr. Jantz, she's young and ignorant. Please forgive her. Please allow the Department of Justice to apprehend the perpetrator. The Jantz family should focus on settling the Whitaker family's affairs; everyone in Summerbank is eyeing their assets."
