Chapter 341: Home Alone

Nothing beats a home-cooked meal! Jared looked forward to his mother's cooking. Although he knew Hannah and Gary weren't his biological parents, he loved them dearly.

"Mom?" Jared called again, receiving no answer. "Where did they go? Out for a stroll?" he muttered, entering the dining room. There, he saw a letter on the table, addressed to him from Hannah.

He read it aloud: "Your dad and I are moving back to our old house for a while. Please take good care of yourself. I've made some yummy dishes and left them in the refrigerator. If you're hungry, heat them up. Please be nice to Josephine; she deserves it. Your dad and I will not forgive you if you ever break her heart! While we're away, feel free to have Josephine over. It'll ease our minds! Also, we're looking forward to a grandchild! Please take care!"

Jared smiled. Now I know why they moved back. They want Josephine and me to have some alone time! He mused. It would have been inappropriate for Josephine to move in while his parents were around, as they weren't yet married.

He kept the letter. It was safer for them to be away for a while, considering his enemies. Staying in Horington was too risky for them at the moment.

He then retrieved some food from the refrigerator and ate. Afterward, he took out the jade pendant heโ€™d acquired from the Whitaker residence. It was a dark shade of green, with pristine craftsmanship. What a beautiful pendant!

Examining it, he pricked his finger and dripped a drop of blood onto the pendant. The pendant instantly absorbed the blood.

A smile touched his lips. He closed his eyes, gripping the pendant tightly. A faint golden aura emanated from his hands.

As the golden light intensified, the pendant floated when he suddenly released it. Within, a dark swirl of energy bounced around, a blood-red light chasing it. It looked like a race track.

"Crush!" Jared commanded.

He opened his eyes and fired a ray of light at the pendant.

Clank!

The golden light vanished, and the pendant fell to the ground, shattering into two pieces. A dark red droplet of blood flowed from the break.

Jared picked up the pieces, wiping the blood from one. "This is good stuff!" he muttered.

He infused the pieces with spiritual energy, then tied red strings to each. Now I'll know instantly if Josephine's in danger! It can even protect her from the first blow! He smiled and called Josephine.

Jared realized that no matter how strong he was, he couldn't be in two places at once. If something happened to Josephine, he wouldn't know in time to protect her.

But the pendant changed that. He'd infused it with his blood and spiritual energy. With two pieces, he could protect her from afar! They'd each have a piece, creating a telepathic link. He'd know instantly if she was in trouble.

"Hey! What is it? Miss me already?" Josephine asked, her voice muffled by food.
