Chapter 345: Wiped Out
Jared, a faint smile on his face, silently sipped his tea. Josephine returned to the table.
โWhat are you two talking about?โ she asked.
โOh! Nothing!โ Lizbeth replied hastily, clearly wanting to keep the conversation private.
โJared, Mr. Grange asked for you. Iโll catch up with Lizbeth,โ Josephine said, patting his shoulder.
โAll right,โ Jared nodded, heading toward Walter.
Walter was seated with a middle-aged man. Upon Jared's arrival, Walter introduced him. โMr. Chance, this is General Anthony Long, Department of Justice, Summerbank.โ
โGeneral Long,โ Jared greeted respectfully.
Anthony nodded curtly and gestured for Jared to sit.
โMr. Chance, General Long has been inquiring about you. Heโs very impressed,โ Walter said as Jared sat.
Jared chuckled coldly. โYou didnโt need to go to all this trouble if you wanted to arrest me. Such a waste of money!โ
Walter and Anthony were both perplexed, though for different reasons.
โWhat are you talking about, Mr. Chance?โ Walter asked.
โI wiped out the Whitaker family. Theyโre here for me,โ Jared said nonchalantly.
โYou eliminated the Whitaker family?โ Anthony asked coldly.
โYes. And please let me know if any are still alive. Iโll kill them all,โ Jared stated openly.
Anthony declared, โMy jobโs done. Confession made; youโll accompany me back to Summerbank after dinner.โ He then projected a powerful aura, befitting his position.
Jared scoffed. โDo you think you can do that with your few men?โ He shivered slightly, unleashing a wave of murderous energy that instantly dissipated Anthonyโs aura. Anthony could only stare in astonishment.
Walter, finally understanding, intervened. โIf youโre here for Mr. Chance, General Long, I suggest you leave. You canโt apprehend him. Besides, the Whitakers got what they deserved.โ
Anthony looked at Walter in bewilderment. As Walterโs former mentor, and the source of Lizbeth's position, Anthony dared not disrespect him.
Walter explained Josephineโs kidnapping and Kaneโs attempt on Jared's life in Horington. He omitted the events in Yeringham, lacking knowledge of Jared's actions there.
Silence fell, heavy with awkwardness. Meanwhile, Lizbeth and Josephine chatted happily.
โJosephine, how long have you known Jared?โ Lizbeth asked.
Josephine paused. โAbout two months.โ
Lizbeth grew anxious. โTwo months? Youโre in a relationship? Do you really know him? Who is he?โ
