Chapter 345: Wiped Out
Jared, a faint smile on his face, silently sipped his tea. Josephine returned to the table.
“What are you two talking about?” she asked.
“Oh! Nothing!” Lizbeth replied hastily, clearly wanting to keep the conversation private.
“Jared, Mr. Grange asked for you. I’ll catch up with Lizbeth,” Josephine said, patting his shoulder.
“All right,” Jared nodded, heading toward Walter.
Walter was seated with a middle-aged man. Upon Jared's arrival, Walter introduced him. “Mr. Chance, this is General Anthony Long, Department of Justice, Summerbank.”
“General Long,” Jared greeted respectfully.
Anthony nodded curtly and gestured for Jared to sit.
“Mr. Chance, General Long has been inquiring about you. He’s very impressed,” Walter said as Jared sat.
Jared chuckled coldly. “You didn’t need to go to all this trouble if you wanted to arrest me. Such a waste of money!”
Walter and Anthony were both perplexed, though for different reasons.
“What are you talking about, Mr. Chance?” Walter asked.
“I wiped out the Whitaker family. They’re here for me,” Jared said nonchalantly.
“You eliminated the Whitaker family?” Anthony asked coldly.
“Yes. And please let me know if any are still alive. I’ll kill them all,” Jared stated openly.
Anthony declared, “My job’s done. Confession made; you’ll accompany me back to Summerbank after dinner.” He then projected a powerful aura, befitting his position.
Jared scoffed. “Do you think you can do that with your few men?” He shivered slightly, unleashing a wave of murderous energy that instantly dissipated Anthony’s aura. Anthony could only stare in astonishment.
Walter, finally understanding, intervened. “If you’re here for Mr. Chance, General Long, I suggest you leave. You can’t apprehend him. Besides, the Whitakers got what they deserved.”
Anthony looked at Walter in bewilderment. As Walter’s former mentor, and the source of Lizbeth's position, Anthony dared not disrespect him.
Walter explained Josephine’s kidnapping and Kane’s attempt on Jared's life in Horington. He omitted the events in Yeringham, lacking knowledge of Jared's actions there.
Silence fell, heavy with awkwardness. Meanwhile, Lizbeth and Josephine chatted happily.
“Josephine, how long have you known Jared?” Lizbeth asked.
Josephine paused. “About two months.”
Lizbeth grew anxious. “Two months? You’re in a relationship? Do you really know him? Who is he?”
