Chapter 356: Too Controlling

Lizbeth worried that Oliver would tell everyone Jared was her boyfriend. "I don't know how I'd face Josephine if she hears rumors!" she exclaimed.

Jared grabbed an apple, taking a bite. "That won't be necessary. Let's consider this payment for letting me stay. I can't eat and sleep here for free."

"You plan on sleeping here? I just spoke with General Long. We won't hand you over to the Jantz family yet, but they're searching for you. I'll arrange a hotel stay and try to connect you with Phoenix. It might improve your chances of survival."

Jared was touched by Lizbeth's efforts. "Knowing the Jantz family's power, they'll find me in any hotel. It's safer here," he said, smiling.

Lizbeth glared cautiously. "You're not taking advantage of me? I won't betray my friend. I'll tell Josephine if you touch me!"

Jared sighed helplessly. "You're overthinking. I only have eyes for Josephine. You can relax."

"All right You can sleep on the couch," Lizbeth said, entering her room to change.

Later, Oliver arrived during dinner.

"What do you want?" Lizbeth frowned.

Ignoring her, Oliver sat down and helped himself. "Man, this smells good! I knew he wasn't just a friend! You wouldn't cook for him and let him stay otherwise!"

Lizbeth glared fiercely. "Shut your mouth! Jared and I are just friends!"

After dinner, Oliver, picking his teeth, said, "Jared, I'll give you a city tour and introduce you to my friends. If you're ever in trouble in Summerbank, call us."

Oliver snapped back, sticking out his tongue, "Keep in mind you two aren't married yet, Lizbeth. Don't be so controlling, or he might leave you."

"Come here so I can kick your ass, you little sh*t!" Lizbeth yelled.

Oliver hid behind Jared. Jared knew Lizbeth worried about the Jantz family. "Don't worry. I won't be gone long."

Seeing Jared was willing to go, Lizbeth relented. They left in Oliver's used BMW, which he seemed to enjoy driving.

Oliver picked up a woman in revealing clothes and heavy makeup. She noticed Jared and winked flirtatiously.

"Hi, handsome! What's your name? I'm Lily. Interested in getting to know me better?" she asked, reaching for his face. Jared moved away.

Lily chuckled. "Hahaha! Shy? Still a virgin?"

Oliver glared at her. "Hey, quit fooling around! This is my future brother-in-law!" He gave Jared an awkward smile. "I'm sorry, Jared. Lily loves to joke. Don't take it to heart."

"Is she your girlfriend?" Jared asked, smiling.
